The Dog Choice Thread

The 21 year old hasn't eaten in a couple of weeks. About once a day he comes out of his hidy-hole and gets a drink of water, then goes right back into his spot. He's old and tired, but doesn't seem to be in any pain or discomfort.

The 12 year old is still a hateful little thing.

I remember you blurting about the 21-year-old not eating. :( Glad to hear about the hateful little thing! :D

The 21 year old (Chomper) is the best cat ever.

The 12 year old (Hunter) is the worst cat ever.

That's actually lawlingly rad. :D To me. From afar.

When I was a kid, my neighbor's cat used to crouch atop fences and pounce on passersby's heads. It was terrifying. It was the single reason that it took me till age 27 to even consider bringing a cat into my house. I thought all cats were demons. But no, only some of them are. :rose:

Hunter has to be right next to me, but if I touch her she hisses and runs. Typical female.

I brought home a feral kitten and lived in a terrifying grudge match with him for five years. He was the worlds scariest cat- he would hide in my closet and jump on my face, claw me in the night when I was sleeping, and crawl up the back of the couch to bite me in the neck.

Haven't been tempted to get another cat since!

I think it depends on how much time you have to properly walk them. My cousin & her husband has a german shepard and due to their kid & work schedule the dog does not get the proper amount of walks to burn off that extra energy.

Another factor is where you live. If you are an apartment dweller, I'd recommend a dog that does not bark incessantly. A Basenji is a good choice since they don't bark at all.

If you're a single dude and part of the reason that you're getting a dog is to attract the ladies, I'd recommend a cute, non-threatening dog like a Dachshund, corgi, or a Jack Russell Terrier. I have a buddy with two Dachshunds. One is blind so the other one acts like his seeing-eye dog. Women practically throw their digits at him when he brings them to the dog park.

OMG number one is so goofy looking, I love her!

Number 2 is cool looking, high maintenance. But those cow dogs sure are smarty pants.

Get both!

One is plenty for me!
really has to depend on what you want from your dog and how much work you're prepared to put into them. both look great dogs. i prefer bitches (but only through experience) as they've been smarter and cleaner; the boy dogs have all been good animals, a bit daft, but i didn't connect so well with them as the bitches. you might want to consider their history more when making your choice: shepherds are known barkers, it's what they do, especially if trying to warn or contact you - great if there's a burglar prowling the neighbourhood, not so great if you've had to go out alone and they bark constantly trying to 'reach' their pack leader. maybe she's not a stressed, barky type - she looks goofy. your boy dog, there, is a cracker - do you have the time, patience (and possibly money) to invest in training him properly? if you can genuinely say yes, then he's worth the investment and is definitely more a laddish kinda mutt.

the other thing maybe to consider is shedding - the amount of fur a gs can shed is unbelievable, like tumbleweeds. takes a lot of grooming (oh wait, was she long haired? can't remember and it makes a big difference).
