Sign of a good actor?

Some modern examples:
Lithgow in Dexter.
David Morrissey in Walking Dead.

Sometimes it takes a great follow-up performance to stop hating them.

Could just be a good role, I guess.

Well, I disliked the "Cocky young guy" Tom Cruise portrayed in just about every movie I've seen him in. He continues to get roles. Does that mean he's a great actor?

Or how about that dude Keanu Reeves always plays? I find him annoying.
Is he a great actor?

Well there is a correlation between The Box Office and getting roles. Stop making the House any money and it doesn't matter how good you can act. Doesn't mean you can't hate them for whatever reason you want. I get hate.

Mickey Rourke in Francesco.

Ever since..I can't stand the man or the actor.

True. But I don't invest that much energy/ emotion into celebrities. Just politicians, but they like to interfere in my life, and entertainers like to distract me from it in their relentless pursuit of attention.

Since I don't take drugs I use actors for distraction. It works on most things, including politics.

I didn't care for Brad Pitt after "Thelma and Louise" and "Legends of the Fall". But after I saw him in "Twelve Monkeys" I changed my mind.

Nothing to do with the roles. Just the acting style.

Woody Harrelson.....his character in True Detective was a total d-bag.

I cheered when Rust fucked his wife and really hoped he would die.

But to me...it shows he's a great actor because I liked him in most of his other movies.

Now he plays cocky mid life crisis age guys.

Cruise as Jack Reacher.....give me a break. He's just at that point he can do what he wants.

That scene should have been much longer.

That scene should have been much longer.

I know.. .

When we watched it my wife said "That's it! I would have rode him all fucking night let him cum in my face and film it for that asshole!"

Note to self.....do not cheat on my wife.

The kid who played the evil boy king Joffrey in Game of Thrones.

Poor kid....he did a good job, but I can't recall a single more detestable character than Joffrey. I think there was a world wide standing O when he died

Personally I wanted him to die very slowly.....have him become "reek" but hey....dead is dead I guess.

Brian Dennehy in Rambo always makes me seethe. He only wanted a sandwich for fuck sake, you power tripping cunt.

Joffrey is up there though. His spiteful little face.

Yep, he was bad enough in the book, but they took him to an altogether different level in the show.

Haven't read them, that's a time investment I just don't have.

But as for the show...its disturbing to hear the reports he is struggling to finish this thing off(not that I can blame him) and I'm hoping we don't get left hanging.

Most find Jamie and the sister detestable....I think he is, but find myself feeling for her. Yeah she's a bitch, but she's got reasons.

I think that's a sign of a good author and actress to feel for a character that I should loathe.

I did not know who David Morrissey was before Walking Dead.

I thought the by-play between Jamie and Brienne this past season was deftly done....Jamie, the epitome of evil, wasn't quite as evil as he seemed, and Brienne was shown the consequences of keepin' a vow no matter what. The best part was they both pulled it off without seeming "preachy".
