What's the closest you've come to dying?

I used to dye Easter Eggs when I was a kid. That little wire handle is pretty short.

Since the amount of time we have is finite, I'm going to go with right now. It's the closest I've come to the end.

Oh wait, no. Now.

Wait... no, now.

No, now.

Shit.

when i was homeless sleeping in a lean to out in the woods mid-december in michigan. i would shiver for hours. luckily i got out just before the first real snowstorm of the year. like a day before. i wouldn't have been able to even a build a fire in that shit.

Last Rites in a Catholic Hospital...

;)

Then I was ordered to a post to track a tornado headed right at us so that we could shelter/move the most possible aircraft.

Back in Nam. Still classified SF op. It got hairy.

Then there was that staff infection a couple of years ago.

Why were you homeless?

That sounds horrible. So, no WiFi or anything?

I suppose all of us have been about a half of a second away from dying on the highway at some point.

I don't think I've been close in the hospital.

Failed a stress test

discovered a 'significant' blockage.

go figure, at the time my cholesterol was just 118 (40 HDL)

I died of SIDS three times before I was one.

I almost drowned as a child when a lifeguard was flirting with some guy and I got in over my head.

I was trapped underwater for a couple of minutes in a kayak on the Salmon river.

I picked the right one of two vehicles to be run over by on my motorcycle.

I was under 15 seconds from where an entire mountainside sluffing off and killing me when it obliterated the road ahead of my rig.

I had a car turn in front of me, I unwisely tried not to kill them and took out a light-pole, totaling my car, breaking my elbow and some teeth.

I was across the street from a club I had just left getting gas when 5 shots were fired into a crowd. One guy died.

I, apparently, am not supposed to actually die yet.

I was very ill this year and that is closest. I lost too much weight and could not eat. I had pneumonia.

I would require some serious thinking & drinking.:)

i've also been hit by cars five times, but i never really got hurt that bad so i don't count those.

Are you a cat?

T-boned by a girl running a red light. The speed limit was 40. She was probably going at least 50, and never touched the brakes. Would not wish that pain on anyone.

First week of my Junior year in college, I was going to tag along with 3 of my friends to go to the movies. My girlfriend wanted me to spend the night with her, and there was no way I was gonna pass that up. They were hit by a semi and killed.

Any other day, I would have gone with them. Maybe i would have been a backseat driver and made the driver (who was a VERY bad driver) pay more attention to the road. Maybe I would have ended up dying with them.

It's something I've thought about many times since.

/thread over.

Damn. It would be hard not to think about that.

Six months ago I woke up in the worse pain I've ever known. Went to the ER and of course it was a kidney stone. When they did the CT scan they found a tumor on my kidney. If it hadn't been for the stone, the tumor probably would have killed me in a couple years.

That and I got run over by a boat as a kid. Totally unrelated.
