The "ragtag group of rebels" is a standard bbs troll technique. The I am david vs Goliath meme to elicit sympathy from the board because every one looks around and says, "Hey, I am not a part of this cabal of which he speaks!" and looks to join the "rebels" in reality the "rebels" and "rebel allies" is the larger organized group.

In this troll, I was careful to try and not make it a referendum, nor to even suggest that I had any support whatsoever in doing this. It is only in this post troll analysis and contrasting with the equally weird Dom Roger Elliot style that I bring up the odd collusion here.

I would absolutely not even have alluded to it if this was ongoing because it would have looked transparently as an appeal to me against the masses and that was never what this was about.

I realize that standard BBS to modern forum dogma on trolls is that ignoring them is the only way to deal with them. That same advice is given in schools about bullying. It sometimes is a good idea. Always a good idea in the initial stages of bullying to simply not show dismay, not show they have gotten a rise.

When that fails, continuing to ignore the bullying, especially when it becomes a small group, and those dynamics take over tends to embolden them as the group feels they have a compliant victim. There are things that can be done as I have shown here.

Do I come off as a whiny bitch in the process? Sure. Is it as ineffective as everyone claims in such direct confrontation? No.

I now have Rob unilaterally announcing he is ignoring me for a month, Cowslinger announcing he is ignoring me and at least now acting like he intends to do that and advising the latest upstart applying for the bash queer-bait club. Dom Roger folded in three posts.

Those who mentioned me did so because they know Slinger is my friend and that I am the kind of person who strands behind my friends with as large a presence as possible. They knew when I saw it, that I would have something to say about it.

I received no 'atta girl' but I did get a 'thank you' from my friend for saying nice things about him. There were no emails to him or apprisals of the thread content, at least from me.

Regardless of your opinion of him, the fact is that he is just not that into you. He did not follow the thread as breathlessly as you think. We actually had a long conversation about another subject entirely while the thread was unfolding, and he was not concerned about the thread enough to even mentioni it.

I hope that pokes a tiny deflating hole into QB's giant balloon head. Your opinion of your importance is greatly exaggerated when you're talking about people with actual lives away from their computer.

Ordinarilly I don't make that assumption. Frequently I will have a personality conflict (I know shocking, right) with someone, and am good friends with their friends. Usually though it is because the thing that rubs me wrong is of minor concern to me, and their positive traits are just not in areas that I happen to be privy to.

Several interesting people took the time to PM me to express in a balanced way the fact that they do not approve of some statements, but have a fondness for cowslinger. Not all friends of my "foe" are my enemy.. People are too multifaceted for that.

In this case though you may have a point. Carrots and peas as Forrest said of He and Jenny.
