Why Today? Why in Las Vegas?

In politics, symbolism is everything. You have to pay attention not only to what politicians say, but when and where they say it. For example, Obama announced that he was shafting our loyal ally Poland in order to suck up to our adversary Russia regarding missile defense on the 70th anniversary of the invasion of Poland by Stalin. Tonight in Las Vegas, he will announce an unconstitutional executive decree providing amnesty for millions upon millions of illegal aliens, mainly from Mexico. Why today?

Here’s a clue:

The Mexican Revolution, which began on November 20, 1910, and continued for a decade, is recognized as the first major political, social, and cultural revolution of the 20th century. The United States, Mexico’s northern neighbor, was significantly affected by the human dislocation that resulted: if someone did not want to fight, the only alternative was to leave the country—and over 890,000 Mexicans did just that by legally emigrating during the second decade of the 20th century.

Legal emigration is so 20th century. How fortunate for Mexicans that they had somewhere to escape to. Those who helped build and maintain the Last Best Hope only to see it torn down by leftists aren’t so lucky.

Obama regards himself not as an American president, but as a Third World revolutionary. He may not grasp what the Fourth of July is all about, but he probably understands the significance of November 20.

Location can also be symbolic. Why Las Vegas?

Maybe it has something to do with open borders activist Jose Velez:

Born in 1938, Jose Velez served as director of the Nevada chapter of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) in the late 1980s, and as the organization’s national president from 1990-94.

In the late ’80s and early ’90s, Velez, who characterized the U.S. Border Patrol as an entity that was, and would “always” be, “the enemy of my people,” operated a private immigration-consulting service in Las Vegas which helped illegal aliens prepare and file legalization (amnesty) applications with the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS). Between March 1988 and January 1991, Velez personally submitted more than 6,000 of these applications to the INS. They were designed to help Velez’s clients obtain Temporary Resident Cards, which in turn enabled them to apply for Resident Alien Cards (commonly known as “green cards”)—a prerequisite for permanent U.S. residency and, ultimately, American citizenship.

Thousands of the applications submitted by Velez contained false information claiming, most notably, that the applicants were eligible for amnesty consideration because they had: (a) performed the required amount of seasonal agricultural services in the United States, or (b) resided continuously in the U.S. since before January 1, 1982.

In 1995, an INS Legalization Fraud Task Force investigated Velez and uncovered massive evidence of his illegal activities. On May 8 of that year, a jury in Las Vegas found him guilty of 10 counts of immigration fraud.

By now most everyone understands that no federal government under the control of people like Obama and Jeh Johnson will pursue prosecutions for immigration fraud (which tonight’s announcement is sure to invite) at anything but a token level. But it can’t hurt to ram the point home, just to make sure everyone south of the border knows that the door is wide open

Still waiting on a single original thought from you today.

Have you outsourced all of your opinions like Vetty does?

It's unmanly. Gutless, even.

Obama has given the House exactly 73 weeks to pass the Senate's immigration bill.

Time's up.
