Walmart Security Guard Fired for Detaining Shoplifter

To truly become fundamentally transformed into a population ideally suited to be ruled by the liberal masterminds who run the media and through it the government, we will have to shed all the characteristics in which Americans once took pride, including individual initiative. Bringing this about is a task too large for even the Lightworker Barack Hussein Obama himself. But he gets help from many corners — even from Walmart:

A security guard at a Fort Myers [Florida] Walmart was caught on video tackling a suspected shoplifter and holding her down.

That employee [Daniel Bresson] has since been fired for how he handled the situation.

Walmart confirmed the employee no longer works for the company – and the company spokesperson says it is regrettable that the situation was handled poorly.

They say associates are advised to disengage when an altercation becomes physical and let authorities handle it.

I would have thought a security guard was an authority. But since he does not actually represent Big Government, he is duty bound to watch docilely as the store is looted. Let this be a lesson to you if you are ever tempted to help uphold property rights or public order.

The security guard found nearly $200 worth of stolen items on Tamara James after chasing her down. But that’s nothing compared to what she will probably be awarded if she can muster the initiative to call a lawyer.

WALMART turns the other cheek these days. Its simpler to take money from the employee benefits fund (its used to pay lawsuits, pay for thefts, and pay for expired groceries).

That's the law. Most store security guards are not law enforcement officers and are not allowed to detain touch or restrict any person's movement even on store grounds.

They are only allowed to talk. Same goes for a bouncer in a club.

What law?

Law Enforcement officers are empowered by the individual parts of the state, or the State, or the Government.

A store security guard is not empowered to use force, and is therefore violating your rights.

No one is making you stop for a store security guard. You can just keep walking, I've seen it happen, it's quite disturbing. The security guard's job is to attempt to detain you without the use of force and then to call the cops, or to call the cops, the cops enforce the law, not the rent-a-cop.

Unless they are specifically empowered to use force, they're boned, they can't touch you.

Blame the lawyers.

Pretty sad day on the General Board when PayDay is making the only sensible comment on a thread.

When I leave a store after buying something and the beeper goes of because the teller was too stupid to turn it off, I just keep going and you better not try to stop me.

Same as my wife, she totally ignores those beepers and don't ever try to stop her or you will get shot.

These big corporate chain stores have a no hero policy to prevent suspects from shooting into the store and other innocent shoppers. It also protects them from being sued by injured thieves. The security people are authorized to politely offer help, call the police and follow at a respectful distance in order to get a license plate number and vehicle description.

One big name retailer* even keeps the safe at the front door so that they can facilitate the robbery as quickly and quietly as possible.

*Big in the South & Southwest.

They are instructed not to stop you.

A happy shoplifter is preferable to an angry customer.

You're gonna lose about 10% no matter what you do and most of the cameras are focused on the employees.

A security guard is a dirty little shit thats too lazy to work ...keep your hands off me and if you call the cops you had better be right

Trust me on this one.

They are constrained. Walmart would rather lose $200 than to have this kind of publicity. The libs and Unions already hate them so why throw fuel on the fire?

I was approached one time for shoplifting. The Security officer came out to the parking lot and asked me to show him the contents of my bag because he had observed me putting merchandise in it.

He was wrong. All he found was chapstick, gloves, hairbrush, keys, cellphone (what I had put in the bag), change, braiding bands, and other unmentionables.

He was rude about the entire thing, so once he finished with his shakedown, I turned around, went back in to customer service and returned the $700 worth of stuff I had purchased.

Yes I did, but I already knew he was wrong. Unless constrained by store policy a security guard can make a lawful arrest, a citizen's arrest is a lawful arrest.

If I walk away from your "citizens arrest" you can do nothing. You have no authority as a citizen to lay a finger on me or anyone else.

If you detain me, close and lock a door, touch me, you are the one most likely to be charged - with either assault, assault and battery or abduction.

Go ahead and play hero to try to protect merchandise.

Maybe they do, but he made a blanket statement that isn't true with every retailer.

My experience with Walmart Security is that they employ secret shoppers who keep management apprised. If you lose eyesight of them after a theft, they are not detained or questioned. I've never experienced one that actually employed security guards. If a person, or group, starts thinking that they have carte blanche, then corporate security gives the details to law enforcement and they have trained teams who come in and resolve the problem.

I'd fucking tase you.

Twice...
