Climatologist: 30-Year Cold Spell Strikes Earth

With nasty cold fronts thrusting an icy and early winter across the continental U.S. — along with last winter described by USA Today as "one of the snowiest, coldest, most miserable on record" — climatologist John L. Casey thinks the weather pattern is here to stay for decades to come.

In fact, Casey, a former space shuttle engineer and NASA consultant, is out with the provocative book "Dark Winter: How the Sun Is Causing a 30-Year Cold Spell," which warns that a radical shift in global climate is underway, and that Al Gore and other environmentalists have it completely wrong.

It's cold in Australia?

I thought this was their Summer. Man O man... I always learn things on the GB

Climatologist?

He has a BS degree in Physics and Mathematics and an MA degree in Management. He was also past Chairman of GFSD, an international charity that provided aid to women and children in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I would give weight to his opinion if he had the necessary qualifications .

Ah, it appears Mr Casey is a scam artist. So that's why Newsmax published it.

I giggle like a school girl at the start of winter when the dumbasses start with the, "AaaaHA!! it's cold!!! There's no global warming!"

He's selling a book.

Still the cold comes...

It's 39 degrees and I don't have any snow on the ground, I think this may be warmest winter yet.

"One way to estimate how the rest of the winter will fare is to find analog seasons. This October was pretty normal and November has been substantially above normal so far – and looks to stay that way.

There have been 9 other winters that have began with typical Octobers and warm Novembers when compared to the 1981-2010 climate normal period (1928-1929, 1931-1932, 1947-1948, 1951-1952, 1967-1968, 1976-1977, 1978-1979, 2000-2001, and 2007-2008). Using the climate regions developed by Bieniek et al. (2012), we see that the rest of the winter (December through February) is pretty close to normal. The average deviation is +1.1°F. When we look at those winters using the ESRL Reanalysis, they collective show up as slightly below normal for the rest of the winter.

What does that mean for this season? Well, it primarily means that a warm rest of the winter is not predestined. It may yet happen, but it doesn't have to."

Not adhering to any climate or global change at all. Just saying I'm loving not having to dress like the Michelin man. It's ugly out, but I figure there's some trade off that having no light reflection from snow is alright with me. I fully expect some before December. I'd rather have it then rain, that's for sure.
