What you do is post here and that takes to the private message screen. It will ask you after you hit post:

"Do you wish to make this thought private?"

Simply select "Yes" and your privacy, or as you Brits say <English Accent>"privacy" is assured!

Welcome, your question has been answered, by JtohisPB, seems your friends dont have a clue ;)

Ah, the age old 'the mods read all the pms' questions. Not so much, no. Unless they're REALLY good.

Only Laurel Can read them and she is very discreet. No worries. Unless you cross her.

Laurel only reads the political ones. In fact, she's thinking about setting up a whole separate political PM option.

She told me that she proposed this idea to Manu and he shot it down on the grounds that the political pm's would still fly under the radar in private so it would be a waste of her time.

Hi folks,

New to Lit and from what I've seen congratulations to all on making the site so interesting. My question is around the privacy of the messages to one member from another, I have been told that anyone can view them, is this correct. Common sense says no, but a friend insists otherwise, would welcome some input....

always trust your friends, run away now bro!

The insiders pass them around like choir boys at St. Pats.

Only the cool kids can see them, and they'll only talk about you behind your back. So no worries.

We have enough brits here already, though thanks for popping in and saying hello.

So sad to see you leave, goodbye.

no, mods can't read your PMs. nor could i imagine they'd want to.
the ONLY way a pm to of from you can be seen by other eyes is if the same one's sent to multiple recipients or a recipient chooses to share it with someone else. choose what you share with whom wisely.

there's a rule here that bans the posting of PMs on the forum.

Lets not forget what happened when a mod started bragging about reading pms.
don't know if they ever could back in listory, ltr, but i can promise you that when i was a mod it certainly wasn't a possibility. the ONLY thing we could do was clear spam and send questionable posts/threads to laurel's secret salon for her to make a decison about. i wouldn't be at all surprised if the person who claimed that said it to provoke (making them a shitty mod in the first place) and, if they were in possession of private messages it came about from the indiscriminate or spiteful sharing behind the scenes by regular members.

And not to suggest that the insiders make alts to solicit pm's from posters to pass around like pages on the senate floor.

Eh, I never believed they could. I do believe there were a lot of sharing of pms, which makes them not as secure as one would think.
