Switching to invisible mode eliminated a lot of them for me. It stopped the messages from those who don't even read the threads, but check the list of who's online and pick names that appear to belong to females.

What really puzzles me is when someone goes to the trouble get to know you...even calls you up, insist on meeting except for the final arrangements' and then fucking disappears.

Turn your light off. You still get messages, your name just won't appear at he bottom of the Lit list for all of Lit to see who is online.
