Hardly anyone makes minimum wage except for teens. What MW does is inflate union/government pay. From $7.25 to $10.10 is a 40% increase. If a union flag holder makes $30 an hour her pay will rise to $42 an hour. But there's no increase in prosperity because productivity remains the same. Therefore if the price of a Happy Meal stays the same McDonalds must trade teens for machines.

Other wages do not track the minimum wage, in fact more jobs are dropped to the minimum than receive wage increases upon a government mandated raise the wage. Those who made 9 an hour will continue to make 9 an hour if the minimum wage becomes 9 an hour. The few who are worth more, will get raises 6 to 9 months after a minimum wage hike.

One of the interesting factoids there is that the number of people working at the minimum wage are only kinda sorta represented here. The article specifically mentions that the twenty four states with higher than national standards aren't represented in that because they aren't making "minimum wage" which for the terms of the article is a thing set federally. I'd be very curious to see what would happen if for the sake of argument they asked how many make less than say 10.00 an hour.

Capitalism seems to have "three" definitions. I don't mean what it means if you look it up. I mean what people actually mean when they say capitalism. One is what is actually laissez-faire capitalism. In short government stay out. The mere act of believing in borders means you aren't REALLY in this camp as I'll explain below. The second is meritocracy. In short the rich are rich because they are stronger, smarter, more beautiful whatever. The poor simply aren't. And the third is a sort of wishy washy thing that has no solid mass. I admit, that like taxes I've been known to occasionally slip back and forth between taxes (all of them) and federal income taxes in conversations. When I do and I'm called on it I apologize. Usually because I wasn't trying to be deceptive I just wasn't wasting words being precise.

You know the more and more I read people's opinions I don't think I've heard many if any people who are actually pro-capitalism. Every Republican here is in favor of strong borders which their primary (named) concern being the job market. Basic supply and demand tells us that would effect wages (and I've rarely heard a whole lot of opposition. The closest is that Americans won't do those jobs to which the counter is often they won't do them at those wages. We don't know how how much money it would take to get an American into the field. And an "economic theory" that I can't recall the name of of basically says that it still depends on comfort. At some point offering people money to do something they don't want to do will stop working. Anyway we haven't gone for that. Meritocracy is great.

We don't have one of those. What we have and often fight to preserve is an Oligarchy and the left seems to have more of a problem than the right with. But I honestly don't see how the above borders and forcing said rich under force of law to hire people from your chosen protected group isn't "fighting the power." They seemed pissed about the bailouts as well. I honestly think there is some tic in their mind where an idea is bad if it's not labeled properly. Like if you took the names involved with WWII and around so America was part of the Nazi Empire and the Germans and Japanese were called "America, FUCK YEAH" they'd magically change their opinions on every single action taken.
