Ominous prediction indeed.

I love it when someone corrects you incorrectly. I mean it would be okay if we'd both been wrong that happens but dear God this guy is nuttier than a squirrel turd.

Apparently, people of different political parties believe entirely different things.

Is everyone using a different versions of what is and isn't fact?

Or is it American Exceptionalism vs Left Wing History?

Or are there too many facts? Or too few?

Or is it simply 2 or more distinctly different opinions that refuse to compromise?

Everybody uses different interpretations of what is and isn't fact.

American Exceptionalism vs Left Wing history was explained ad nasuem.

American Exceptionalism requires you to believe that you are superior by birth, to anybody born anywhere else on the planet. That the reason you own a Laptop and an X-Box is because you, as an individual, are inherently superior to the starving people in Africa or South America.

Left Wing History would tell you that there are complex reasons why any place is the way that it is but if we dropped 99.99% of Americans off in the middle of the Sahara they not only wouldn't have an X-Box they'd probably just die.

I know I would. It's hot. And... they have sand worms, right? I seem to remember learning that on a drunken bender.

...ok not for nothing but apparently they really do. I was trying to make a Beatleguise joke. But... this is actually way more terrifying. By a LOT.

NOPE. Nope the fuck out of there. Nope the fuck out of the entire continent.

You're starting to sound like an old Billy Joel song

and you sound more and more like a Rush Limbaugh tape.

You still cling to the "No increase in prices despite all of these jobs having to go under American Labor laws" story while at the same time you and your 'bros' claim that a higher minimum wage will raise prices and destroy jobs".

So now how do you wish to reconcile your two theories about wages, job creation and market price?

Or is it just the, "That's another thread" thing?

Or do you also demand repeal of the minimum wage along with the expulsion order for 20 million illegals and while you're at it an end to social security, medicare, workman's comp and all taxes?

This thread is Sean Renaud's shining hour.

I don't always agree with him, but he is unsurpassed at explaining both his points and the rationale behind his points.

Hardly anyone makes minimum wage except for teens. What MW does is inflate union/government pay. From $7.25 to $10.10 is a 40% increase. If a union flag holder makes $30 an hour her pay will rise to $42 an hour. But there's no increase in prosperity because productivity remains the same. Therefore if the price of a Happy Meal stays the same McDonalds must trade teens for machines.

Who makes the minimum is irrelevant to this thread, but you're wrong about that claim as well.

Other wages do not track the minimum wage, in fact more jobs are dropped to the minimum than receive wage increases upon a government mandated raise the wage. Those who made 9 an hour will continue to make 9 an hour if the minimum wage becomes 9 an hour. The few who are worth more, will get raises 6 to 9 months after a minimum wage hike.

But nice try and nice red herring.

Funny how it's always higher wages for the lower workers that increase prices...how bout all those ungodly massive golden parachutes? If you wanna bitch about something, try directing your anger in the right direction.

This is obscene, and indicative of the true problems in this country...not only the greed, but the idiots that think it's ok.

Besides taking top spot for corporate severance packages, Welch's retirement also led to G.E. having to increase disclosure of perks in public filings after it was revealed he'd obfuscated his extensive use of the company's jet, a New York apartment and box seats at Red Sox games. Still, Welch, now 76, earns $9 million a year for the rest of his life.

Nice reading. ...but are you seriously telling me you wouldn't kill for that job and that kind of money?

Let me guess, socialist...

...you believe it's the collective's right and duty to redistribute Welch's wealth for him, and to punish him even more if he doesn't bow down and obey your wannabe dicktate.

And you believe it's for the good of the collective for lemmings to vote "democratically" to create laws backed by force to set exact limits on what every lemming's wealth can be, so that your love of communist equality can finally and truly rule...

...(notice the absence of question marks).

So you didn't read through the article? Many of those CEOs didn't start those companies, and there is a huge fallacy that somehow they "earned" those golden parachutes. Many times they roll in, fuck a whole buncha people out of jobs, slash and burn, gut companies with lots of cash, create debt.. and move on. Mitt Romney is a part of all that and you idiots wanted him to be president.

The fact is, I am not against capitalism... but I do believe that unbridled, unregulated capitalism and greed are some of the most damaging things going on in this country. A post earlier showed that the top 85 in this country held more wealth than the bottom 3.5 billion. Any that thinks that is a good thing, that the obscene wealth disparity in this country is a good thing, are just ignorant.

The rest of it is just you talking out your ass, which you constantly do. You're not smart enough to think for yourself, much less me.

Less than 5% of American workers make minimum wage.

Correct. It's 4.6% of all HOURLY workers and something like 2% of ALL workers.

Yet you and your kind seem to have kittens over the thought of raising it.

Because it lifts union and government pay without improving performance or productivity.

Nice reading. ...but are you seriously telling me you wouldn't kill for that job and that kind of money?

Well, chyeah, but...

...I know that I only need a certain amount of space to live in, one car to drive or one car to be driven in, one bed to sleep and fuck in, one toilet to shit and piss in, one shower to wash my ass in afterwards.

Granted, I'ma make sure all those are gonna done premium style, but there's no way I'm living longer than the money. I can't bend the laws of physics with more money. Obscene excess is exactly that.

If I made that kinda loot, I'm helping others because I'm basically part of the problem. Any way I can improve lives, even at my expense instead of further profit — which is outside of the profit I'm already making until I croak — I'm doing it. I ain't bitching about jack shit.

How many union or government workers earn minimum wage?

And why do wage increases need to be tied to increased performance or productivity? Do you think that's how upper management earns their pay increases? What if a company is profitable? Shouldn't the employees helping to make that possible be paid accordingly? Ever work somewhere before that didn't require you wearing a paper hat?
