Another Green Energy Boondoggle

It's still a bargain compared to the bill the taxpayers got stuck with to get all that Iraqi oil revenue. Pity about the birds though. Poor little things never knew what hit them.

What does Iraqi oil have to do with this? The US is producing enough oil for its own needs already.

The Ivanpah solar project, partly owned by Google, is now seeking a $539 million federal grant to help pay off a controversial $1.6 billion loan it has already received from taxpayers.

So what?

According to you, Obama wasted more than this on his state trip to India way back when. How'd that work out for you?

Vindicate that, ya schmuck.

Now I don't particularly believe that the Ivanpah plant is going to work as originally intended, is safe for wildlife or in any way is the future of solar energy, but seeing that we may well spend 7 billion to refuel and refit an aircraft carrier that is only 26 years old (of a 50 year life expectancy) and which given the advancements in smaller amphibious ships drone technology and missiles, has an uncertain continuing mission in our force, what is a couple billion spent to try to revolutionize electric power production?

Your concern about those birds would carry more weight if it was tied to concern about the temperature of the planet.

Birds only matter when they are killed by green ventures, it makes them hypocrites because killing birds isn't green.

Oil, gas and coal companies aren't hypocrites because they don't take subsidies, don't make use of public land, don't ask for government backed loans, don't take pictures of caribou walking under pipelines and have never polluted in any way.

If it's green, it's liberal and by definition that is wrong. Global warming is a farce, put forth by the UN in order to destroy American economic dominance of the world and to advance the sub-human cultures to prominence. Pollution is a farce too, the free market can control it without government, people will just turn off their appliances when they get tired of acid rain and that market pressure will force the coal plants to shut down or clean up.

If the entire venture is lost... so what? We waste far more on ships without missions just to keep our "Carrier building work force" employed (but that bit is of course not a union job action because that would be bad).

We are starting from scratch, planning more carriers at 12.9 to 16 billion each, again despite several top naval expert's opinions about their continuing role given the changing technology.

At least we'll be able to launch 500 drones from one instead of only 60 piloted craft.

If we can get solar energy plants like this to work, be safe and produce to their potential, we can cut even more foreign energy and make the entire middle east irrelevant enough to go scorched earth on them if they attack Israel. See?

Generals ALWAYS fight the last war

and GREEN is LIB/PROG/DUMOH and all LIB/PROG/DUMOH=Evil, vile, unworkable and UnAmerican:)

and BTW, we (US) are energy independent!

we don't needa go scorched earth, just KILL ALL MOFO MOOSEFUCKS....we can always use the infrastructure left over...its the GREEN thing to do:rose:

Economically the more profitable venture would be to destroy Israel. Smaller, fewer bodies to bury, historic precedence.
