I have, a few times, changed names. I told people. Published on the boards. Did not vote for myself. Tried to be forthcoming. But it seems to me that there are good reasons why one might change a name here. For me, it was coming out of the frozen-heart-zone of recent divorce into the 2-year-recovery thaw of living back in New York City. How was it for you? Anyone take a new name? Why or why not?

No, this has been my name forever.

ETA: that's a lie. I just had Laurel change it like five days ago.

Who were you before? Islandman?

No new name for me, either. Unnecessary.

Reinvention can be fun, however.

I've thought about changing mine because my current name is fucking stupid.

To be clear, I changed my name. Not my identity. I didn't 'start over' as a new poster.

For me, that's just fucking weird behavior, unless you had shady history on the boards.

Laurel will change your name if you ask nicely and send her 15 or 16 cat gifs.

I had another name way back when and wrote one story, and never used it, then I forgot the password since I only ever lurked, so I made another and used it for about 2k posts, got voted best GB newb and all, but I wanted to post in the AH, so I made this one and wrote a few stories and forgot all about the other one, because I like this one.

Laurel doesn't care, she even said Alts and other name accounts are not against site rules.

I took a new name because I was gone for five years and then had to request a deletion of my profile. I had a compromise of my information hit the workplace, so it was time to seal off some compartments. I wouldn't say I've taken on a new identity, but I also think I'm very different from back then. I try to maintain more perspective.

Changed my name (thanks, Laurel, once again) and, yeah, had to renew things right here and I feel comfortable with my new name. At least...

Why? I'm using my first username on other sites so not gonna use it here anymore.

If I were to change my name, I would have to create one better than the one I have now.

That is not possible.

Had to default to another username because my initial one was banned.

I was gone for a year, year and a half, probably. The last incarnation included a lot of couples stuff with my then wife. At the time I came back, it was painful to see those references in transition since that was a pretty good time for us, so I needed a blank slate.

...or a couple of really nice penis pics.

It has to be a really nice penis, though.
