Interesting tidbits about a "new fan" that fav-author'ed me

I usually always do a quick bio check on anyone new that hits the "favorite author" button on me. It's interesting to see the details about them, how long they have been around Lit, check for any stories they may have up themselves, and see who else made their fav author or fav story list. I've been tagged a number of times by someone totally brand new and been their first fav'd author or among their first few, but one that I picked up yesterday has me scratching my head.

This one joined up yesterday, but sometime real early as were already off the "last 24 hours" recent activity section of the author control panel by 10AM this morning. Still no biggie until I moved to check and see if they had fav'd anyone else also.

BAM!!! Oh yeah...I not only wasn't the only one they loved so much to press the fav button for, but I was also sooooo far down the list of 86 others that I wondered how they managed to find me at all while being so busy punching so many other buttons. And that list was the biggest collection of potpourri authors I had ever seen on one list. Totally wild diversity as far as writing styles, one-off strokers and series specialists, every possible trope and kink, male and female writers, authors who just posted a new story yesterday to ones that haven't contributed to Lit in five or six years, authors in the HOF to ones with an average score in their portfolio that's embarrassing...this newbie loves everybody and everything! Their fav list is like the ultimate Whitman Sampler of GM writers.

And now for the additional tidbit of this tale. Not very long after making this person's fav list I received the following private feedback:

Of course it's from the infamous AnyMouse and I can't help but wonder if 86 more feedbacks like that went out to other authors too? The timing is just a little too coincidental.

Or maybe my tinfoil hat is malfunctioning. ;)

Or maybe it's someone who lost/deleted his account which had all the previous favourites.

Could be a possible explanation of his/her favouriting spree.

Also, it could be nutbag and one of the many alts to litter this place.

Or, it could be your long lost secret admirer, back with a vengeance. ;)

Ah, I can see how you are confused. Let me translate this from Crazy and into Feedback.

"Extremist Muslims have an agenda of eliminating Alcohol, Pleasurable Sex and most other fun. It is obvious they should be targeting you and your wild stories. Please don't travel to Northern Syria or Iraq. Love from the President of your fan club"

So did you respond to the wannabe Muslim extremist?

I can't imagine what it's like to have the time to fave 86 stories or authors.

:rose:

Sometimes think it would be better if had to join to leave feedback. Might not stop the bs but slow it down.

Definitely not the last one...my stories tend to attract "secret admirers" that send me offers of marriage. :D

My best guess using your list would be serious nutbag.

That would be gladly welcomed as a public comment, but I'm not positive you have mastered the Whackjobese-to-English translation quite yet. ;)

It was a private feedback or I probably would have whipped off some suitable smart-ass reply. And it's not just having the time, but how he/she/it made it such a priority on the first day as a member! My first week on Lit back in 2006 was just figuring out the site map and navigation.

This has been suggested innumerable times. Eliminating anonymous would eliminate a lot of this pure hate filled trolling.

But the site could care less.

I've seen pages that have so many favs it would be a shorter list of who's not on it.

I have too...and been on them. I figure those are people that just fav every single story they read. They also tend to have been around Lit for at least a year or two.

But this one tried to accomplish the "fill up the page" stunt...and just with authors...on their very first day here.

Maybe so, but I also think implementing such a restriction would come with a sudden flood of new members with IDs of: User123456789, User123456790, User123456791, User123456792, etc, etc.

Plus, do we really want to cut off ALL the good anymouse commenters over the FEW asswipes that occasionally plague us? (LW excepted from that statistic of course ;) )

Its troll coward mentality. We are still anon even with a lit name so the good anons would have nothing to worry over. For the trolls even just having a name to put them to would scare many off.

True, but I think there are many readers that don't want to register even with the obvious anon Lit tag for fear of "someone" discovering they read stories here.

Plus, I believe there are a number of readers and even fans too, that don't always bother signing in when they come for each Lit fix. (excuse the bad pun ;) )

I've got one story that might get to that point someday. It has gotten 304 faves since I posted it in March.

If I wrote the sequel everyone is asking for I know it would... I just can't get that story to flow.

I've mentioned before sequels elude me, I'm a thrill of the kill writer, once that ice is broken I have no interest,

My Earth Day winner still gets feedback comments every week asking for a part two where Justin goes and shows off the "hot Samantha" to his bitch cheat ex girl. But nah....

I tell readers I rather have them take the characters where they want them to go, but that's a cop out. I just have no interest.

Oh, and BTW that was from March and on..... 513 favorites;)

I've been talked into serializing "Interrupted!" but I have to get my act together and finish "Pizza Boy at the Door" before tackling that job.

GM fans just eat up chaptered stories and even when you do an obvious, one-shot stroker, they beg you for more. I haven't decided if that's good or bad yet. <shrug>

As annoying as this may sound, most anons do leave nice comments showing appreciation and nice words for the author. You wouldn't isolate them either, would you?

Lit gives authors the awesome pooowaaaahhh to erase nasty/stupid comments from their comments Board. That pretty much is a good solution to it, I think.

That's the fear and argument. I hold to the decent anon would more than likely be okay with a handle.

But we won't know so its a moot discussion.

I think that the trolling has gotten so vicious and out of hand here it might be worth the risk.

I don't get that many favorite author or stories, but they seem to come in spurts. (No pun intended, I didn't see it until it was on the screen.) What I mean is that after I post a story I get some favs and comments, then none for a month or so, then it's like a second wave hits four to five weeks later and I'll get a rash of four or five more comments/favs.

I have noticed a LOT of people who favorited me or a story lately have been very new to Lit, usually just a few days, not more than a few weeks, and they have tons and tons of favorites. I don't know how you could get that many favorites that fast unless you just favorited them before reading.

Almost as if there's a behavior of searching for stories/authors, until you get a bazillion of them, then reading at a later date. Which I realize I do to a point. I might finish a story or chapter and then check out the 'similar stories', saving them to a notepad list, before going on with the story I'm on.

They do seem to like their chaptered stories, lol. Which works for me since my stories are in the 60-70K range.

I don't know whether to be upset or relieved that they're not aiming at me...

It's still a thrill for me to see the little heart, but I don't keep track of how many. I've gotten to be OK when a new story gets unfaved fairly soon after, I figure they've used the system to save it to read later.

It's the broken heart unfavs that come out of the blue that I wonder about. Why don't they like me any more, I'm still a nice guy. LOL.
