CBC Radio personality Jian Ghomeshi fired over sex allegations

Jian Ghomeshi, a popular radio personality has been let go by his employer, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, over allegations made by several women that he forced them to engage in non-consensual, BDSM sex.

None of the women filed any charges with the police, and for his part, Ghomeshi maintains that the sex acts were mutually agreed upon and consensual, and that the smear campaign directed at him is the result of a lover who is trying to get back at him for dumping her.

From the article:

Over the past few months the Star has approached Ghomeshi with allegations from three young women, all about 20 years his junior, who say he was physically violent to them without their consent during sexual encounters or in the lead-up to sexual encounters. Ghomeshi, through his lawyer, has said he “does not engage in non-consensual role play or sex and any suggestion of the contrary is defamatory.”

In his Facebook posting Sunday evening, Ghomeshi wrote in an emotional statement that he has “done nothing wrong.” He said it is not unusual for him to engage in “adventurous forms of sex that included role-play, dominance and submission.” However, he said it has always been consensual.

Ghomeshi’s statement said that he has been open with the CBC about the allegations. He said the CBC’s decision to fire him came after he voluntarily showed evidence late last week that everything he has done was consensual. Ghomeshi blames a woman he describes as an ex-girlfriend for spreading lies about him and orchestrating a campaign with other women to “smear” him.

The three women interviewed by the Star allege that Ghomeshi physically attacked them on dates without consent. They allege he struck them with a closed fist or open hand; bit them; choked them until they almost passed out; covered their nose and mouth so that they had difficulty breathing; and that they were verbally abused during and after sex.

A fourth woman, who worked at CBC, said Ghomeshi told her at work: “I want to hate f--- you.”

“I have always been interested in a variety of activities in the bedroom but I only participate in sexual practices that are mutually agreed upon, consensual, and exciting for both partners,” Ghomeshi said in his posting.

“Let me be the first to say that my tastes in the bedroom may not be palatable to some folks. They may be strange, enticing, weird, normal, or outright offensive to others. … But that is my private life. … And no one, and certainly no employer, should have dominion over what people do consensually in their private life.

You can read his Facebook post here where he addresses the allegations.

He's suing the CBC for $50 million.

I'm trying to wrap my head around how anyone, even a public radio personality, can be fired over unproven allegations of sexual misconduct, when none of the supposed victims filed any charges with police.

Jian describes his sex life as a "mild" version of 50 Shades of Grey. Perhaps he should have had his partners sign a waiver or contract, à la Christian Grey and avoided this mess.

I saw this posted on facebook.

I think there is more to the story that we don't know.

I really don't see how a Canadian man can be a dom. They are only slightly more masculine than a Brit.

Probably you're right. But still...without any criminal charges, just some interviews with women who refused to go on the record, after he's been with the CBC for 14 years, is harsh.

He seems to be portraying it as the vengeance of a jilted lover. What's the old saying? Hell hath no fury as a woman scorned.

Pffft.

I had a great sexy dream of that food critic Giles something or other taking me to task for over steaming the vegetables.

He can bend me over the kitchen table and spank me with a wooden spoon any day!

Because they can fire you for anything that becomes public knowledge that embarrasses the company or hurts its ability, in this case, to sell advertisements. They do not have to make a determination of guilt or innocence in order to terminate.

This in not your employer in the bedroom, this is when your bedroom goes public.

Spin this one next, bro!
Law Will Allow Employers to Fire Women for Using Whore Pills

A proposed new law in Arizona would give employers the power to request that women being prescribed birth control pills provide proof that they're using it for non-sexual reasons. And because Arizona's an at-will employment state, that means that bosses critical of their female employees' sex lives could fire them as a result.

Yesterday, a Senate Judiciary Committee endorsed Republican Debbie Lesko's HB2625 by a vote of 6-2, which would allow an employer to request proof that a woman using insurance to buy birth control was being prescribed the birth control for reasons other than not wanting to get pregnant.

If employees make you money you rarely fire them.

That would explain one woman, not three. If they aren't coming forward openly, then that rules out wanting publicity. Something ain't right, somewhere.

What has three times the fury of a woman scorned?

As a radio "personality" he likely has a morals clause in his contract which likely states any negative reflection on himself or his show or the corporation in the mainstream or social media would be cause for suspension or dismissal.

And, as a Canadian taxpayer, he's effectively suing ME! Prick!

I find it odd that the supposed women aren't willing to go on record. It's very possible that the Star is making at least 2 of them up outright. I've seen employers lie in very malicious ways to get rid of an employee. Unless they're willing to put their name to their complaints, not even file with the police... but at least be willing to be verified as real people, I don't think this allegation holds much water.

I could be wrong, and he could be a huge rapist shitbag... but this story smells fishy.
