The recently-erected monument to Mosaic Law in Oklahoma City has gone the way of the original set of stone tablets, knocked down by a careless driver.

And just like the originals, these will be replaced.

Was the driver named Moses and doing it on purpose?

Named him after a man of the cloth,
Called him Amos Moses...

Far too often we forget that the true power does not reside in the tablet, but in the words thereon.

oooo! Weird! Was the Ark of the Covenant made of pieces of the broken tablet, that was given to Moses?

Heck, I've broken three or four of those commandments myself. No big deal. All ten at once, though...wow, that must have been a hell of a party.

I know, we could replace the broken commandments with actual morality, little things like: Don't rape, no genocide, think for yourselves, question authority, no slavery, tolerance, etc...

Fuck anyone you feel like...

Only if said fuck is consensual. Biblical law sez that a rapist can get away with rape by marrying his victim & paying her father a set sum of silver, so rape is fairly well condoned, unless under a certain set of circumstances, because women are mostly property.

The Golden Rule boils it all down to one sentence.

Those with the gold make the rulz? That's just a variation of Might Makes Right, which while workable, is bullshit from an objective moral standpoint. Love thy neighbor/fellow human is more to my liking...

The Golden Rule isn't actually made of gold.
