It seems every Thread turns into a Left -Right hate fest battleground of personal or imagined grudges. So in an attempt to further education I'm starting this one and I'm going to post links and let people read and decide for themselves.
Feel free to post any links or comments relevant to the topic.

I'm going to start with this one.

I also discovered theres an Ultraviolet light that kills Ebola. Why don't we have these in those isolation wards?

There is a decontamination spray machine....I have to look this up, that is also being used. Used in both RN's homes and personal settings from what I caught as I ran through my living room and heard/saw on Tv.

The problem isn't education, the problem is bureaucrat and professional dolts who 1) malpractice, and 2) are incompetent.

The people that need to read this -- for example, the "OMG EBOLA SPREADS THROUGH THE AIR WEER ALL GONNA DIE" crowd -- aren't going to bother.

But nice try.

Thanks. Yeah well they come under the heading of "Stupids" as Wings called them yesterday lol.

I read an article that supposed there is sufficient evidence to conclude it's possible to contract it via the air. If for example you walked into a room that an infected person had recently sneezed in and you breathed in a respiratory droplet that was still airborne.

I'm going to see if I can find it again so I can post the link.

Another question I have is can it be transmitted via mosquito bite? Were sending 3 or 4 thousand troops over there for up to 6 month deployment (ass reported locally).

The UV robot thing ,seems to me a no brainer. It could be taken 1 step further buy setting up a decontamination booth where healthcare workers could be bathed in it for the required amount of time before removing their garments.

Don't expect sanity on the GB .

The second link seems more like a plug for the machines maker .I would be happy to be proven wrong .

CDC Gets an F for Failure

We've been hearing about communicable diseases and the threat from pandemics, natural and terrorist in origin since what 2005? The CDC's job is not to make sure there are enough healthy food choices or grocery stores in peoples neighborhoods. Let Michelle Obama do that, she's good at promoting that stuff.

This is from their web site CDC Mission Statement
The Division of Scientific Resources (DSR) is committed to partnership with CDC laboratorians in responding to public health needs through supply of state-of-the-art technology, expertise, and high quality products and services. DSR is the primary laboratory support infrastructure for CDC and serves other scientific functions as well. Although DSR is housed in the National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (NCEZID), we strive to meet the needs of customers in all CDC programs.

If it works, give them a government contract to make thousands of them. It will lead to smaller versions and create jobs too. Of course the important thing is that it kills ebola viruses.

This is why healthcare professionals use face shields/masks/goggles.

It is quieter over here. Ahhh.

I still insist on full body protection togas with space helmet. There is no face shield or mask that would get me within 20 feet of Ebola. I would also wear 3 pairs of gloves.

And asked to be wrapped in duct tape. But I think that is more appropriate for the BDSM boards.

I can tell you what the protocol is as far as a full blown lvl 4 research containment facility is.

Enter the locker room and disrobe.
Walk through a shower to another locker room, dry off and don the green suit.
Enter a UV and Ozone chamber. Must stay there for 30 sec.
Enter an other locker room, take off the green suit and throw it in the marked receptacle.
Walk through another shower, dry off and don the blue suit.
Enter a UV and Ozone chamber. Must stay there for 30 sec.

Now you're in the working area.

Exiting the facility is exactly the same as the entrance, just in reverse order.

I'd be okay if I had full coverage and a dip/spray. Still scary, but I trust MY technique. I would be more scared of eating lunch in the breakroom with coworkers.

And this is considered overkill for care for these pt's.
