I want to help with a story

The title says it all. I want to help with a story. I love reading. I love being a part of something wonderful. And I love helping people think. I want to be an editor, but my spelllling is horrendous and my grammar is only lukewarm. Is there a place for me here?

You can volunteer to be an editor. Go to the Author's Hangout forum and ask your questions there. Etc. Etc. As has been posted in this thread. Already.
 
Go to the Editor's Forum and offer your services as a beta reader. Many authors work with an editor for the more technical side, then at least one beta reader to get an idea of how readers will view their plot, characters, style, etc. It might be the perfect way for you to contribute. :)

is there a way to help other authors? some of the few that i have been following still have the: he her the then than there their they're etc mix ups.

thats pms mostly isn't it?

I wasn't going to chime in because I couldn't see a defined role with what he was describing. That sounds perfect.

I wasn't aware people did that.

When I work at it, my grammar is passable. Not editor level. I always figured why offer to clean up some grammar while leaving some residual detritus.

Offering "notes" on a work in progress might be fun.

there are also holes that open up in stories that are so big they almost hurt. thats what i want to help with

I have read so many books and stories on this site and others that i can read just a little and tell your where it's going. I hate that. I was 17 when I had to stop reading King (who I still love) because I knew what would happen. (just turned 33) Every now and then I find something to read (here usually) that keeps me riveted. I want that for everyone.
