(A thread for GB gamers to discuss their current titles, noteworthy exploits, and eagerly-anticipated upcoming releases. A haven for the discerning nerd.)
I've long said that I can either write, or I can game, but I can't do both. Great bursts of creativity have oft been undone by my picking up the controller, and successful campaigns brought to a halt by the return of the Muse. Since the end of grad school, I've been very active with my city's lit and slam poetry scenes, and the result is that my console and Steam libraries both have languished. However, in the wake of a recent featured performance, another publication, and the completion of a new short story, I've been feeling ambitious, so I've decided to rest on my laurels for a few and indulge my other hobby.
Current titles:
- Kerbal Space Program. That game. That fucking game. Been playing since .17, and recently had to start a new Career after too many mods borked my last save. Tragic, but I'd made it to Duna, so I figure it was a good run. I'm really pleased at the new features and functionality, and the result has been that I'm building leaner, building smarter, building safer. I've yet to lose an astronaut, and I'm on track to begin a new era of planetary exploration. Good times.
- Dragon Age: Origins. Kicking it old-school. I'd played the demo of this previously and not been terribly impressed. Decided to borrow it from a friend after I watched her girlfriend playing Dragon Age II. It's not as bad as I remember; I just needed to see that the combat system was more like Jade Empire than Mass Effect. Taking a careful, tactical approach to battle sequences is key. Having a fun time so far.
Upcoming titles:
Fuck me, has anyone seen The Long Dark yet? They've got Jennifer Hale and David Hayter doing voice work for it. Like a Canadian, paper-art sandbox version of The Road. I am all over this shit. Gamers of Lit, what you are playing right now?
