So Russia has canceled a popular student-exchange program after a gay student sought US asylum. I find this interesting, because right now, it's basically open season on LGBT people in Russia. People don't want gays anywhere in their midst - hell, they don't even seem to want them breathing - but they also don't want them to leave the country either. It's not just base homophobia; it's eliminationist. It's like the high-school bully snarling "Get back here and take what's coming to you."

Side note: I learned recently that Hitler preferred a fuller mustache (some of his earlier photos would have placed him right at home in Portland). He only trimmed it that way so it would fit under the respirator of a gas-mask. That's paranoia for you, I guess.
