My four-year-old is on his second big bowl of broccoli slaw salad (with balsamic vinaigrette and a touch of grated Parmesan) this morning. His first was at 8am, after a bowl of cereal.

He also eats lemon wedges and drinks vinegar.

What weird things do the kids in your life eat?

mcdonalds *shudder* barely qualifies as food.

Agreed!

No one in our family can eat McDonald's without getting a headache, rash or feeling terrible. Of course our son always wants to go--McD's does a fantastic job marketing to kids--and occasionally I take him to a McD's playland, but we don't eat there.

My 20-year-old son STILL puts French fries or onions rings or even mac and cheese into his bacon cheeseburgers when we go out. (Fucker's 5'8", not 115 lbs.)

When my son was much younger, all he'd eat there were the hash browns. Now, it's just hash browns or the fried chicken Bacon Clubhouse. Even when he was younger, he'd always chose BK or Wendy's over McD's. Hell, when Popeye's came to the city, he was excited.

At two, one of the kids would eat pickled herring like it was candy, and another would eat concentrated tomato paste straight from the can.

Now they have taken a fancy to anything exotic and gourmet restaurants in particular.

McD and any talk about "children's menu" is taken as a grave insult.

When my kids were 6, 4 and 3 they suddenly decided they hated veges.
Rather than force the issue, I just continued to put them on the plate.
One day when I was short on time, I grabbed a pack of frozen mixed peas, beans and corn out of the freezer. Then the doorbell rang so I left the kitchen.
Next thing I know, I come back to find all three kids sitting together at the counter munching away on frozen veges!.
For about 4 yrs after, that was the only way they'd eat vegetables. If it was frozen, it got eaten.

My daughter loved lemon wedges, too. She cracked me up....she would lick the sides first, then bite them over and over until the juice was gone, all the while giving off these full-body shivers. Then she'd smack her lips and sigh, like a guy putting away a beer.

My son used to order bacon & cheese hot dogs at a local burger joint, remove the hot dog and eat it separately, then eat the bun with the bacon & cheese. He won't eat salad with any dressing, but he loves dipping chicken tenders into honey mustard or ranch dressing. Odd kid but I love him. ;)

My kind of guy! Growing up, I hated eating salad. I found a great way to get back at my parents was to eat it without dressing, this for some reason caused my folks no little distress....

My four year old asks for mashed up sardines on toast, something her poppa shared with her a couple years ago. She wants nothing to do with whole ones. Mashed up, on toast with fresh cracked pepper... nom, nom, nom. She also enjoys sauerkraut, on its own or on hot dogs.

My two year old loves all types of olives. Kalamatas, plump deli olives, wee spicy Sicilian ones. Even regular queenies with their holes stuffed with pimentos, garlic, or almonds.

Both of them love sushi as well.

We all had weird tastes growing up because mom was... not great with keeping food in the house. I used to eat just bags of sugar. My youngest brother will eat literally anything, the middle one lived on chocolate milk exclusively for like 4 years, we later found out that it was because he had a really bad ulcer and it was the only thing that didn't hurt to eat. Bite size chews on stuff and will eat indiscriminately, but on her own rules. She can take the same can, and sometimes fucking love it and sometimes throw a bitch fit.

My childhood was like 90% candy, and it's a super bad habit that's carried over into adulthood. I have a bowl of candy on my desk at work, on the kitchen counter, and a box of nerds on the nightstand if some whore hasn't eaten them. And candy is like 99.9% chemicals.

when no1 son was small, he detested all foods dairy but loved milk. when one of my sister's visited, she asked to take him out for a pizza. she ended up having to order him a pizza base with a little tomato puree on it. the last time she'd tried to buy him food, it was in an expensive gallery, with a plethora of cream cakes and pastries - there was nothing he wanted except a bread roll, but they only had butter - so he ended up eating dry bread and a little french onion soup. she thought going downmarket would be the answer, but he came out quite happy from the pizza joint whilst she was mortified.

no3 son is 17, and when he has a sandwich he only has one slice of bread buttered - and it has to be the bottom slice. he adores big bowls of freshly steamed veggies though.

Princess love broccoli.

But only when she sees it wokked in peanut oil.

That is the only way she will eat it, she dips it in soy sauce and then only the top.

My 3 year old will use anything as dip. Like she will dip chicken in chocolate pudding if she has both at her disposal.

french fries and a wendy's chocolate frosty taste shockingly good together.
