Have you seen Star Trek Continues?

I'm impressed so far.

All three full-length episodes are true to canon (as far as I can recall TOS canon), and very well-written. In fact I would say that the writing is their strongest trait. The acting is very good if a little stiff at times. In particular, Vic Mignogna, is channeling vintage Shatner, almost eerily at times.

Amazing sets, perfectly replicated uniforms, period lighting, wonderfully saturated colors, great visuals and in-jokes and cameos make a really great icing on the cake.

I will say that I'm not all that familiar with the other fan production shows, so if you think that they are offering competition, sound off here, as well. I would love to see your recommendations.

Thoughts?

This is the Greatest thread in the History of the GB. Well...no actually it's terrible. It needs a complete makeover. It could probably use a good poll or pole and Boobs, definitely Boobs & a pole. Post some pics of some hot cast members.

Thoughts?

I don't know...

...I suppose turquoise_sky is gay enough a twink could actually use it, but it's that "Really Really Experienced" you seem so proud of that makes me wonder:

Are you a hooker?

And...

...do you give a discount if the john buys you two bottles of Bonnes Farm and splurges for bathroom privileges at the NoTell Motel?

Not that I have any money to spare or anything...

there has been a thread here about st continues...
nonetheless

as a died in the wool trekkie...

i do enjoy this noble contribution to tos...

hokey and beautiful
and
wonderfully true to what once was
and never was allowed to finish...

let the curmudgeons curmudge....

Ah, shucks. Although I should have known. I never seem to be able to get Lit's search to work for me.

I hope that Netflix picks it up. A whole season would be great.

They did a good job. Just saw #3 and the actor playing Kirk captures Shatner's mannerisms really well. Got to check out the others.

This lovely young lady and Vic Mignogna both appear in a Star Trek: Phase II (fan based) episode. It was written by John Meredyth Lucas, a writer for the original series in the sixties, for ST:p2 the proposed 70s series that was scrapped in favor of making Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

Check it out. I think you'll like it.

It took me until almost the end of the teaser before it hit...holy fuck...that's Gil Gerard!

And Erin Grey in Star Trek Continues.

And Lou Ferrigno in green body paint again.

I guess there's a pathetic side to all this but the style the fan community has shown brings a nostalgic awesomeness that outweighs any of that.

i like the terrible acting the best. it really adds to the authenticity.

Surprise! :D The two other gentlemen with Mr. Gerard were Andrew Probert And Jim Martin, two illustrators that have worked on Star Trek shows and films for years.

And Lou Ferrigno in green body paint again.

I found that a bit ironic when I first saw him. Took me a minute to realize who it was under the green make-up.

Well... okay, they could probably benefit with a few acting lessons. But at least they're trying and doing something creative and entertaining.

You have to remember: these folks aren't under the watchful eyes of some big media conglomerate with a full crew of professional production and editing people, nor do they have the big bucks that go with it. These folks are amateurs and fans, with a few guest spots here and there, relying on their own income(s) and donations. They're putting these shows together all on their own without Hollywood bigwigs and corporate executives, and doing it on their own time... not to mention doing it for free.

A lot of the nitpickers out there have done nothing but bash these guys from all directions, and I've been responding to them with the same thing:

"Hey, you think you can do better? Get your own production crew together and impress me! You don't like what you see? Change the fucking channel! At least they're doing something creative and enjoying what they're doing with a genre they and others have loved for years! What have you done lately?"

Nice. So far as good as Continues.

Can't get down with TOS/TNG spin off's and re-hacks.

Star Trek has always been about looking forward not back.

It needs a new face lift into the coolest shit we can come up with for Ol' NCC-1701??? as far beyond Jean Luc Picard and Galaxy class D were beyond Kirk and the Constitution Class Enterprise. In 88 when TNG hit it blew peoples tits right off man...it was fucking incredible!! Special effects and everything were just awesome from the photon torpedos and space footage to the transporter...in-fuckin-credible.

Shit needs quantum slipstream trans galactic bad ass, it needs ultra cool 2014 space battles, it needs new races, it doesn't need to lose the ever present moral/ethical/human condition aspects that make Trek so god damn good....not go all Miachael Bay on us like JJ....

Also would like to see it HBO style....not PG/PG-13....lots of real talk, real shit hitting the fan and the occasional green titty would be pretty rad too. Trek for folks not still in diapers.....

Until then I will sit, waiting and hoping for a visionary comes along and breathe fresh life into what is arguably the illest O' fuckin G triple OG sci fi franchise of all fuckin' time. Watching any one of the series's for the umpteenth time....

that was actually more of a swipe at tos, but whatevs.

the deal though....
is if you close your eyes and stop thinking...
for a few full moments...

you are taken back to the enterprise.

i will watch these stories as canon.
they are that faithfully good.

morgana is the shatner who emerged from the transporter in 3-18.
transporter/tardis... whatever
vic morgana is completing a 5 year mission.

not just cool, but
socially aware.

watch this thing.
it sounds pretty.

if tos is to play in these next two years
as if it were the last two years
of the original years...
there could be mad men money in it
masters of sex
i love lucy
bring the enterprise home.

Actually season 1 TNG was lame as shit and everybody agreed , they just kept watching because it was Trek. Watching season 1 TNG today is downright painful, awful special effects more awful acting, and positively abysmal writing.

Season 2 things got better, introduction to the Borg, Data's trial in "Measure of a Man", Riker's beard :p

But it wasn't until Season 3 where it became a huge hit first with "Yesterday's Enterprise" and then the "Best of Both Worlds" cliffhanger was where it legitimately "blew peoples tits right off".

Also have to disagree with Trek always looking forward. If that were so the time travel stories wouldn't be the most popular stories in Trekdom.

Trek now has a history in addition to a future it needs to incorporate into itself to be as close as possible to what everyone wants it to be.

That went totally over your head...

Oh I agree it needs to be a part of, but between Enterprise and JJ's latest venture to Michael Bay the fuck out of TOS....it's been 12 years of the past. If they want a revival it's about time to get the fuck back to at least the 24th century. I think the 25th would be pretty rad and full of new cool shit but we can just re-hash old shit forever too.
