Ever wake up and can't get back to sleep?

Yeah happens quite often. You stressing about something?

Turn on some low key music - Jason Mraz is a personal favorite of mine...so relaxing.

Lots of stress lately. Likely to continue for a while. So just trying to stay calm and get my mind off of it.

Yeah...trust me I get it. If you want to talk about it let me know. I know I could use a friend right now.

Think positive and stay strong! :)

There's

Always orgasms, they at least release happy endorphins

I wake up all the time and can't get back to sleep. Forgot what a good nights rest feels like. Good is when I sleep 4 hours without waking.

Looking for a calming voice in the night...

Are you out there?

Can you hear me?

I use a terrific counting meditation, if you are interested. Works like a charm, because by focusing on numbers you push out the other things buzzing around in your head

Distractions

So what usually gets your mind off stress?

What do you love about life?

What's your favourite scent?

What books have you read lately?

I could recommend a few people to chat with here, who would bore you back to sleep In 5 minutes..

+1 for meditation, relax, chill, and let the stress go. It is difficult at first but gets easier.
Or a massive wild session of hot sex works wonders too. good luck with either / both.

All the time, that is why I am now sitting at the computer typing this post. Sometimes there are some friends I can chat with.

Could definitely try it. Can't hurt right?

It's called a Return to One

Assume a comfortable position sitting on the floor, on a straight backed chair, or lying down.
Close your eyes if it feels comfortable. If not, find a visual point to focus on and soften your gaze on that point of focus.
Notice your breath. Breathe in a natural, comfortable rhythm. When you inhale, think “one” silently to yourself, for the whole inhalation. When you exhale, think“one” silently to yourself, for the whole exhalation.
Continue to count your inhale and exhale until you get to 10. Then count backwards until your return to “one.”
If you lose track of your count at any time during the meditation, simply return to “one.” It will distract you from the thoughts which keep you awake...simply do the meditation until you drift back to sleep.

Hope it works for you as well as it does for me

All the time. This morning in particular, I woke up dreaming of a friend of mine's wife. I haven't seen her in about 4 years, but man, did I ever remember her last night.

I used to have a counting trick too. Back when I played golf a couple of times a week, I'd replay the round in my head. I never made it past the sixth hole, because golf is basically pretty boring.

at my age...

nature wakes me up all the time; sometimes daily stress keeps me awake and I'm not able to come here for delightful relaxing stories or similar; all I can do is either wait it out or try reading for awhile to get mind off the work distractions.

If I need a solid night sleep, then I break down and take a generic Ambien before going to bed - keeps my mind quiet when the nature calls come and I get right back to sleep. Tonight will be one of those have to take an Ambien nights

Sounds far too familiar. Haven't slept more than 3 hours straight in more than 20 years.

20 years? Blimey. At least I get a coupl of decent kips a month. I do find removing any clocks from the bed help. You can't focus on the feeling of "it feels like hours since I last checked the time, but the clock says it's only two minutes" without a clock to tell you. I also find listening to podcasts or radio shows you've heard before help. Works on babies, why not on adults too. Not sure if getting someone to drive you around in the car to help you settle works as an adult tho.
Other things that have helped me in the past...knocking one out; sleepin at the other end of the bed; different bed; sofa; floor; watching the news; coffee....
