Someone cut my fingers off with bolt cutters

I had a nightmare about someone having cut off every one of my fingers on my left hand one by one with a pair of bolt cutters.

Well, clearly you are doing it wrong.

To dis-articulate a finger you simply bend it back and slice cleanly through the tendons on ether side of the joint. Work your blade through the cartilage and with a pop, the selected digit is ready for mailing.

Well... it is quick, but inelegant. I would advise dis-articulation. It makes a much more professional statement.

Those would probably work. But not as well as bolt cutters.

Bolt cutters were designed to cut metal, and not bone and soft tissue. It would go through a finger or toe like a knife through hot butter.

Well... they will crush through and splinter the bone fairly effectively but they are not sharp enough for the soft tissue. Depending on the size lock or bolt it is designed to shatter, there is a gap between the blades, usually. Sometimes as much as 1/4 inch on the very large ones. In fairness if you were using ones with 4 foot handles likely you are taking a hand at the wrist. In any case, you will likely have to use a knife to separate the phalanges from the body entirely after using bolt cutters.

I am assuming, of course, that your goal is not to simply crush them and make surgical re-attachment problematic?

When I was a kid I took apart the lawn-mower. I reasoned that my bike benefited from the process of disassemble, clean, grease, adjust and reassemble.

I found out that I am far better at disassembling things than reassembling them.

I found out that I am far better at disassembling things than reassembling them.

I discovered the same thing, but with the bulb from my dad's blood pressure cuff. I thought I could use the bulb to blow up balloons but I didn't anticipate all the little springie things inside, or that they would shoot off in nine different directions the instant I released the clamp that held it to the hose.

Dad was pissed. This girl got her tush toasted.
