The Official Author's Hangout 2014 Summer Lovin' Contest Support Thread

At a little over 600 votes on mine now, so that pattern I've observed is holding steady. That's half again as many votes as I had at the end of day one.

The first day is still the big showing, but the couple of days following that are a lot bigger than they used to be. It's not just contest stories I've been seeing this on either. My regular postings and a few I've looked at have been following the same general pattern.

Comes out to about where I would expect the vote totals to be. It just takes a couple of days to get there, rather than one burst.

Posted my story around the midway point. So far, I've been startled by the number of comments, votes and a stunning amount of favorites (for me, anyway). I'm sure some of that is because of category (Incest), however, I don't recall this level of activity on one of my stories. Point-wise, however, it's unlikely to win.

Ya never until it's over.

Getting in front of as many people as possible is what it is all about.

hes also posted stories on literotica under other handles maybe you should check them out and consider them.

1] Sonichu, that post was long after my account(s) was/were hacked, & many threads & forum-posts edited.

2] Sr, maybe not, but you're not the one to say that or even the one to be allowed to make that call regarding other people's rights & abilities!

You have the right to not read that terrible story and move on. :)

They equally have the right (& furthermore, the ability) to not write it, or at least not submit it.

Besides, the reader is unaware of its low quality without reading it.

People will write because they want to and free websites like these give them the opportunity to do so.

I don't know about you, but I don't have to go through a whole lot of rubbish, only to reach the end and tell that it's rubbish. The first half page or so does the trick for me.

Psssstt Psssstt

Hey, Erin! You're wasting your breath and time.

Three days.

The vote patterns for this contest have been interesting to say the least.

A mini sweep appears to be under way. I've lost two votes--separately--since yesterday, and the rating is going up.

Mine is.....interesting.

The score is a little higher than what my guess would have been, but the vote total? Way below the last two Group sex stories I entered in contests. I'd say about half of what those two were this far in.

People hacked my account too! On Youtube and Flipnote Hatena! And they were downvoting my captain's logs that weren't ANY OF THEIR BUSINESS TO SEE!

my autistic heart goes out to yuo.

I reluctantly posted two entries: PRICKLY PAIRS (LW) which I'd crafted off-and-on for months, and finished last-minute; and A TASTE OF LEMONADE (Incest) which I tossed off in a couple hours, recycling tired tropes. Both have gained MANY more views and votes than I expected -- not super-high votes; both are in the decent 4.15-4.35 range.

I'm surprised that my tame LW story (currently over 4.3) was the highest-rated on the NEW LW page while it was there. I'm also surprised that it has only 1/3 the views and votes of the Incest story, although it has 3x the comments, few negative. Views and comments seem to spill-over to my back catalog, too.

My experience leaves me reconsidering my assumptions about category readership. I see an opening for more LW stories. I might even survive.

Creeping toward 700. It will probably hit it just before the sweeps knock it back down *laugh*

It's honestly about where I would expect now. This was no "Nude Holly Day", "Summer's Heat", or "Boned", and I wouldn't expect it to pull in those kind of numbers. There was no major tension, strong kink, or even a long sex scene in this one. This one was as much me wanting to write about a real setting I've never used to date as anything else.

This one pushed me up to my highest position on the Most Favorited list so far, so that's a win. Woke up this morning to find out I'd placed second in a different contest ( with a different story ) too :D

I could probably drop a mom-son story in this name and go up about a hundred ranks :p Not going to, though. Don't have many ideas for those, and decided for no real reason to give any of those to Les.

I haven't see a sweep that I can see anyway. Score is up a little, but so is the vote total.

There has been a sweep on the whole site. My 2 cents worth of subs have higher ratings and lower number of votes than before.

When does voting end?

I don't want to post my second installment, happily ever after, thing until it being on the new list and referencing the entry won't affect scores.

Comments and feedback convinced me to continue with these two characters.

When does voting end?

That's no longer specified. The announcement of winners is supposed to be made on the 13th, but some of the recent contests haven't been announced on the designated date. When the big sweeps are seen, that should mean the voting is locked out.

Thanks, I don't have a snow balls chance either way but don't want to do anything to make it look like I'm trying to get extra votes. I've had maybe two votes since last week and not very many views.

1] It does for me as well... Which us why I think it does so for the author when they're writing it, & they should know better than to subject total strangers to it.

2] I know there are plenty of sites that give people the opportunity to post their writing freely (both at no cost & whenever they want). But their existence simply means you can; You don't have to.

Which isn't a bad thing. The final date of voting gave the trolls and cheerleaders a target date to get in their last efforts.

If every author stopped at the start of a story and said this is crap.....half the stories here wouldn't be here. Many people have doubts about how good their stories are and beat themselves up over it, but still post and more often than not are surprised at the results.

The last one I wrote that I thought, "Ugh, not my best" placed in a contest.

Just so you know....I know of at least three people on the boards whose children are autistic and I am sure there are more.

Your calling yourself autistic isn't all that amusing.

I would have said this in a PM, but you have yours shut off.

I'm not surprised.

I'm also going to start a pool on how old you really are. You sound like all the kids that used to come to my store to play Yu-gi-oh, they ranged from 7-14.

The last one I wrote that I thought, "Ugh, not my best" placed in a contest.

I had grave doubts when writing and editing one of my stories. I wasn't convinced that it was worth finishing. I thought that it was too long, had too many technical details, and was boring. It acquired an H within hours and has kept it.

Another one I was sure was crap from start to finish. I was writing it just to get the plot out of my head. I hit the 'submit' button and forgot it until it was posted. The votes and comments suggest that it wasn't as bad as I thought, but it isn't good.

Some of the ideas and stories that I think are wonderful fall flat when posted gaining little attention. Are they crap? I don't think so, but the readers seem to.

All that proves is that I have no idea whether one of my stories will appeal to others, or not.
