The member I think it is has had her account deleted. TSB seems to know who it is. He can compare notes, if he wishes by PM. Until then I'll assume it's her. I could always just email her and ask, I guess. She dropped emails on me in true name using her office computer. (Why do I think it was her true name? She's on the masthead the office address led to. Her email was outing me--on the basis of analyzing my stories here [which should say something about where the ideas for a lot of my stories come from]--so I felt justified in checking up on her. She didn't seem to be shy about discussing her true self.) Who knows how voluntarily open she's been to others here as well?

One thing is true of what TSB posted. She was a good addition to the AH. She's a poster we'll miss. (And I'll certainly miss her comments on my stories.)

What you're missing, which I've posted--and I'm not the only one who has posted it--is that what you suggest will require money generation and other effort from the Web site. It's not maintaining what it has; there isn't a chance in deep down hell it's going to do what you suggest. (And that's even before we get around to how difficult it is to track down a poster and then to do anything when you've tracked them down.)

This especially isn't going to happen since all the Web adminsitrators have to do is push a button and delete an account when harassment is reported and shown--it has the rule in existence. All it has to do is push a button and delete an account. There's no expense, I assume, in pushing a delete account button. And there's no indication it's going to do even this. (The question is hanging out there on whether posters being harassed are even reporting that. But they did in the past and nothing happened--most notably during the dead baby incident which blows the significance of sexual harrassment PMs out of the water.)

The "expense" is time. I get the impression that Laurel is so slammed with screening stories and putting out fires when someone complains about their story being stolen, she has no time for policing the website. If there was a consensus at the AH that we were willing to raise revenue via an author's fee, or a contest fee, or whatever, she might be willing to try hiring an IT person to do the policing.

In other words, if all the AH wants to do is complain, nothing will happen. If the AH wants something to happen, they (we) will have to come up with a new approach that doesn't encroach on Laurel's time, or her bottom line. I see it as one of those put-your-money-where-your-mouth-is situations. Knowing human nature, I suspect the complainers will win out over the people who actually want to affect change. It's the same thing in RL. "I want my social security, and my medicare, and my police department, and my nice roads, and my clean water, but don't ask me to pay taxes."

This website is the Somalia of the internet. On the upside, the crude comments posted at the end of some of the stories can be quite entertaining.
