'Huge Number' of Tax-Dodging Corporations Preparing to Expatriate

Dozens of major U.S. corporations are preparing to jump ship in a mass wave of tax-dodging corporate expatriation, the Washington Post reported Wednesday.

According to Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) a "huge number" of companies are currently shifting their headquarters offshore or are contemplating deals to do so thanks to a tax loophole called "corporate inversion."

"They are taking advantage of all the good things that our government helps provide," and then running out on the bill," said Sen. Elizabeth Warren during a speech before the U.S. Senate last week.

In the past ten years, 47 major corporations have shifted their base abroad—at least on paper—and another dozen have their move in the works.

WASHINGTON — Republican senators blocked an election-year bill Wednesday to limit tax breaks for US companies that move operations overseas.

The bill would have prohibited companies from deducting expenses related to moving their operations to a foreign country. It also would have offered tax credits to companies that move operations to the United States from a foreign country.

The Senate voted 54 to 42 to end debate on the bill, six short of the 60 votes needed to advance it. The White House says President Obama supports the legislation.

‘‘Today in the United States, any time an American company closes a factory or plant in America and moves operations to another country, the American taxpayers pick up part of that moving bill,’’ said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Nevada Democrat. ‘‘Frankly, a vote against this bill is a vote against American jobs.’’

Highest corporate taxes in the world. Enough said. Over tax it and it goes away. It's a simple concept. Look at the states with lower taxes. They are booming. Look at the higher taxed states, not so much.

Companies are bailing out of Illinois like rats off a sinking ship (perfect analogy by the way). Most are going to business friendly states with better corporate and personal income tax rates, better unemployment costs to the employer, better workmen's compensation rules and rates, less expensive property taxes, stable pension funds, right to work, and more.

Extortion and blackmail-
The corporations bully states into giving bigger incentives,
bigger freebies and offers.

The threat- They will take their ball away, and move elsewhere.
The truth- The corporations will exploit the area for all that it is worth,
then move on, to the next victim.

The USA is littered with abandoned property.

I say that if they move, their intellectual property is unenforceable in America, and anything that comes in on the docks is free to take.

That'll instantly adjust their attitudes and attitudes of people like you.

“The game is rigged and the American people know that. They get it right down to their toes.”
Senator Elizabeth Warren

Our taxes are not the highest in the world and most businesses only half care about taxes to begin with, especially when you start looking at a state to state basis. This myth that they are fleeing high tax areas for low taxes ones isn't really true.

Moving jobs overseas is okay with you because of corporate taxes? You like putting people out of jobs because of greed?

To this I say: No shit.

You could say the tea party does just about anything, and she would swallow it whole, regurgitating line for holy line. It's brainwashing 101. They recruit from the pulpit. Where better to go?

To what? Putting Americans out of jobs?

Corporate taxes are passed along to the consumer in higher prices for food, goods, and services. We give these companies the money that they need to pay their taxes each time that we pay at the cash register.

This hurts the poor the most, because corporate taxes drive prices higher for the basic necessities that they need. Most people don't seem to mind that the people who can least afford to pay are paying a disproportionate percentage of their income for corporate taxes. That's why politicians like corporate taxes. The tax is hidden in the higher prices that we pay for everything.

If the result of high corporate taxes is that people are losing their jobs or going hungry, then perhaps it's time to consider lowering corporate taxes.

Wow, I didn't know you were a mean person.

Apparently, she's on the side of the corporations. You know, those who can do anything they want and screw everyone else, because, well that's what Jesus would do.

Prices are determined by supply and demand. Taxes are constant across the market. Companies that can deliver good or services at the best quality and price matrix profit and survive. Those that cannot do not and blame "high taxes" for their personal failures. This country enjoyed its greatest sustained period of growth when the highest marginal tax rates were 90 percent. Use your brain and don't let right wing talk radio do your thinking.

Apparently, she's on the side of the corporations. You know, those who can do anything they want and screw everyone else, because, well that's what Jesus would do.

It all goes along with the 'personal responsibility' meme that the right likes to flog, but what they mean is personal responsibility for everyone except them.

And it fits.

Christianity absolves one of any moral responsibility, i.e. the devil made me do it followed by, Jesus forgives me so so matter what atrocity(s) I've committed, I'm not accountable & I get a free pass to heaven.

Corporations have, as one of their fundamental purposes, the responsibility to shield the stockholders from any legal or financial liability for any and all actions taken on behalf of said stockholders. That means no matter what atrocity is committed, legal, moral, financial or otherwise, in pursuit of maximized ROI, the stockholders are never, ever responsible.

It's absurdly funny, in a tragic, utterly horrifying way.
