I miss AK and all the corny random shit that happens! Since moving to America I had a very attractive young woman come to my door asking me to sign a petition. I was ready to sign until I noticed it was to stop the Iditarod. I asked why anyone would ever sign that and why anyone would ever want to stop such an event. She went on about cruelty to dogs. I asked if she had ever been there which of course she had not. I tried to explain that it was much more taxing on the musher and that if she ever saw the dogs in their harnesses jumping like popcorn with excitement to get going her mind would be changed instantly. Now I am not saying that all who mush or keep dogs always do the right thing, but to ban the race...? Ugh, the narrow mindedness out here sometimes drives me nuts. She probably went to a presentation and believed everything that she was told from some other ignorant nutjob who had no knowledge of the truth.... Might as well have been trying to sell me home school info on a Sat night! Unfortunately, she is probably an elected official about now...

She was actually very cute, petite, blonde hair. Meth skin always gives them away, and that nervous agitation.

Funny story, but quite accurate for those who believe sled dog myths. I've never made it to the Iditarod start but have been to the T200 many times and the dogs couldn't be more excited in anticipation. The yipping! Waiting for that brake to be released to run like they're bred for.
 



They'll be changing the weather forecast. A third grader could look at that radar image and tell that there is no way there's a 60% chance of rain this afternoon.

The anchor was up and aweigh at 0730. It was one of those rare summer days that follow on the heels of the violent thunder storms which announce a clearing high. The wind clocks from the southwest with the storms to the strong, cool northwest breezes. Humidity disappears. It was a day to head south wing and wing with the headsail boomed out by the whisker pole. You can cover a lot of ground on a day like that. At this time of the year, with nearly seventeen hours of daylight, I can almost pull off a hundred nautical miles. The autopilot makes single-handing so much easier. I'm not 100% sure I could break out, haul and stow the anchor without it. The long downwind day means the sun beats down on the back of my legs all day long. I always forget to reapply goop there and, as a result, by 1800, I've got sunburn. If I die from melanoma or another form of skin cancer, this'll be part of the cause (along with skiing and tennis). Once the anchor's down, there's enough daylight for a cooling swim followed by a tasty greenie in the cockpit. The day is capped by a steak on the grill. There are worse ways to spend a day.

This afternoon we're attending an open house for our dream home and then going to the river for a swim. I can't even think of a better way to spend the day.
 
Yay, time for supervised visitation, time to pack the CCW.
 
I want something sweet, but I am not sure what it is I want.

I am also thinking of going to ruby tuesdays cause they keep showing that freaking commercial and I want those mini burger things.
 
Ate a cookie instead.

Weigh-in tomorrow. I should be shamed, but I don't give a fuck right now.

I'm hoping to snowmachine from the cabin to the other side of the Susitna from the start, this next winter. As long as there is enough snow.
