just curious here, if someone posts something in this thread and does not specify a gender, is the assumption that they are looking for someone of the opposite sex, that they are looking for a female, or that they are open to responses from either gender?

I would say, if you are interested, just post and ask. I wouldnt assume anything on a site like this, there are all kinds. Your best bet is to make it clear what you want directly.
