I am sorry that people like Phelia use a thread to honor our soldiers that gave all to vent frustrations of not serving as I and many other veteran's did for our country. Again, I apologize for uneducated people like this that can not understand the thought you put behind this honor to these soldiers. Thank you for this thread!

Thank you Ann, I put her on my iggy list, so I have nothing to hear from this very sad person again. When I came home from Vietnam I was spit on at the airport, so I took off my uniform so this would not happen when I flew to New York. We were not very popular when returning to the States. The sad part is I put my life on the line for idiots like her.

The number that served in the military from Aug 5, 1964 to May 7, 1975
(Vietnam Era veterans) 9,087,000
The number that served in the South East Asian theater of war: 3,403,100
The number that actually served within the borders of South Vietnam: 2,709,918
1,713,823 of those who served in Vietnam were still alive as of August, 1995 (census figures).
During that same census count, the number of Americans falsely claiming to have served in-country was: 9,492,958.
The 2000 census showed 1,002,511 Vietnam veterans alive.
During that same census there were 13,853,027 claiming to be Vietnam vets.
As of the 2010 census we have 807,000 Vietnam veterans alive. 29.78% of those who served in country. No word on the wannabes.

Later, in some weird way, it became fashionable to have served there.
Does anybody doubt that Clinton and Gingrich, Biden and Cheney, now wish they hadn't dodged?
That's why, when people now piously pronounce "Thank you for your service," a lot of real vets are thinking "It don't mean nothin'."
