I'm trying to collect my thoughts before I try and resubmit. I wrote my first story and submitted the first part. after many rejections it finally got approved but it was placed in the wrong category. so I decided to submit an edit to get it moved and to add "Ch 01" to the title because readers were confused. I was rejected and here's the rejection
"While we do accept submissions with graphic violence, we don't accept "snuff" - i.e. death & extreme torture with the aim of sexual titillation. We generally do not accept submissions of nonconsensual sex in which the "victim" gets absolutely no sort of thrill or enjoyment from the acts, or is seriously and /or permanently physically harmed/abused. "
Some of you had the opportunity to read it before it was removed. It was called The Darkroom and was placed in Non-erotic. I need some help because there is absolutely no one in this story who is getting sexual gratification from the murder at the beginning and also I know my "victim" was reluctant to do what he wanted but she consented to be there. at any time she could have left. she also does enjoy portions of what he does.
I could also do a keyword search and find stories about murder, torture, and noncon that is more rape like than anything I've written. so how should I go about this? I want to be respectful to the process but I'm really mad. My whole argument of why my story should be accepted hinges on the fact that there are others with worse stories. I don't feel comfortable pointing to any specific stories in my rebuttal because I don't want to get those authors removed.
my other problem is that this story was originally approved and it was only removed when I submitted to have it moved to the right category. I submitted the exact same story. I didn't change a single word and now its unacceptable? this is what I wrote in the comments section to explain which edits I was submitting.
"I believe that my story was posted to the wrong category. It was posted to Non Erotic and I believe that it should be in NonCon Reluctance. There is a reluctance scene near the end that could be ill received by the non erotic audience. I realize that this part is more of a build up and not a full on stroke story. I have edited the title to reflect that this is just the introduction. "
I got the 2nd part back this week from my editor and I'm almost finished with the third. Should I wait and submit the whole thing at once? I honestly feel like there is no point of finishing since there is no audience that will be able to read it. During the time it was posted it got good reviews. A 4.06 is not spectacular but it shows that there were those who were reading it.
I'm really not sure how to move forward. Do I try again or just give it up and back down? I know its not a big deal that one story doesn't get published but I feel very cheated. Especially when I read one of the awful 1 and 2 star stories that were deemed more acceptable than mine.
