A Poet Walks Into a Bar . . .

I was going to say: "I think I got better at writing poetry, I must be doing something right in my choices on how to learn", but then I remembered that no one knows what poetry is, nor what makes it good, which makes my attempt to learn how to write it completely blind, which makes it irrelevant. I think you're right: participating in the 30 in 30 is pretty useless. :)

You are doing fine. we need a summer challenge to write. who cares what poetry is or is not. write what pleases you, where it pleases you...

No one knows what makes poetry good and fewer know what makes it well. Here is the rub, poetry is not a cake. There is no recipe, there is no measuring spoon and cup. There are no marks on the oven dial. All we have are the tools and the ingredients and no idea how it's going to taste when we pour the batter on the page.

And yet, every once in awhile, someone produces something beautiful, and even though the formula never works twice, someone will always fine another, just as good.

When we say no one knows what makes poetry good, what we mean is, no one knows what will make poetry is good. Once it's finished, anyone can see it is good and perhaps speculate about why, but no one has yet created a recipe from the taste of the finished cake.

Why do I always write that brilliant line in my head last thing at night just before sleep, and then have forgotten it in the morning?

let's not forget packaging, bronze, that is important and often makes for a potemt combination

Oh right! The other half has enough of me jabbering in my sleep, without spouting poetry in the middle of the night too! :D

  • if yer rubbing it, bronze, it ain't cake batter.
  • pouring batter on the page makes a big mess.
  • when the cake's finished, you should be smiling and sighing about crumbs. let someone else wonder about the recipe.
  • do not make cakes in bed.

packaging sells - but it don't improve the flavour, nuh-huh, though really really clever packaging can pursuade you otherwise.

here I am trying to bring culture to the masses
what you are missing is the subliminal
You are now Little Debbie's snack

probably an indirect threat to bronze

Don't Even think about breaking in the cake business, the girl crushed Ding-Dongs, Twinkies, etc.

but grapes look so heavenly
sliding between your lipa
