Yup I just collected my 4th rejection. This time it was because I submitted a .rtf and they are not accepting .rtf right now. I have resubmitted by copy and pasting into the submission box. I am not holding my breath for an acceptance since the last time I copy and pasted resulted in format issues.

The maybe good news is that I got the idea for another story today. Maybe I'll begin working on that while I wait for rejection number 5

Did you preview the story? That's one advantage with submitting by cut-and-paste. You can usually see odd line breaks, incorrect italics if you used them, things like that.

I've never had a problem submitting this way that wasn't of my own doing, to be honest. That is, a mistake in the file to start with.

It's just my luck.

I previewed it and I didn't see any issues. Of course I previewed it last time too and saw no issues either.

I think rejection 5 will be a sign that I need to stick with numbers.

If you'd like, I could look over the file for you and see if there are any things you missed. Send me a private message (click on my name to the left of this post and select sent private message) and I can give you an email to send to. Not sure what you mean by numbers, but I use plenty of written-out numbers and it's not a problem.

This is one of the reasons why I stick with Word 97/2000/XP .doc format.

I'm a math person. My job involves a lot of numbers. I very rarely write anything more than a memo. I'm hopeful that the c&p issue is fixed since I did it from a computer instead of my mobile. I'm just trying not to get my hopes up. I think I'm more down hearted because it is another rejection based on a technical issue and not the story.

If my story is crap I'd like the readers to let me know because then I'd at least know whether or not to continue.

I use the paste form and have never had any problems with it. I write in Word for Mac and after approval by Microsofts spell checker I cut and paste the entire thing into the form, where I do my final edit (and get an extra spell check from my browser).

I'd recommend not submitting a file since you don't get a preview of how your story will look when posted.

Btw....

.. my first story was serious crap... the second was a little less crappy... the third was almost readable... the fourth.... well, you get the point. There is no better way of learning than doing, so if you give up too soon you'll miss out. :)

Well still, I'd look it over if you'd like.

Every story I have ever submitted I did via the copy and paste process. No rejections...ever. And I copy and paste directly from Word.

It all depends on how you have word set up. You shouldn't have any space added before or after a paragraph. Just add an extra return/enter.

Single space
no indent
no space before or after a paragraph
extra enter between paragraphs..

Just like you do here on the forum.

Very Wise, if I may say so.

Eh? I submitted several chapters of my story via rtf because there were italics and such. I don't use MS Word, it's a wretched program. I exported to .rtf and opened the files in WordPad to make sure everything looked right. Didn't have any problems posting that way.

So .rtf is no longer valid? I guess if that's still the case the next time I need italics I can use WordPad to convert to a .doc. It would seem to me though that rtf is better for this purpose than doc format, rtf is restricted to some pretty simple formatting, as are the html pages used on Lit. Doc files coming off MS Word have a greater potential to be a big mess.

Try OpenOffice. That's what I've been using for every story since I started at Lit. You can save directly as a Word 97/2000/XP file. I've only ever had one hiccup with my stories, and that was largely my fault. But every one I've submitted as a .doc, with multitudes of italics without HTML tags, has been posted without rejection.

If you think changng fromXP was bad you should try windows 8. What a disaster, When you have billions of users, why create an entre new learnng curve? I sorely wish there were some other choice!

You are corerct! Don't even try the newer Word software. Also beware Italics, especially long italicized sections.

Or you could just type the HTML tags:

<i>text</i> .... italics
<b>text</b> .... bold
<u>text</u> .... underline
<center>text</center> .... self explanitory

<blockquote>text</blockquote> .... indent 5 spaces
<blockquote><blockquote>text</blockquote></blockequote> .... indent 10 spaces

For every level of blockquote you get 5 spaces of indent at the beginning and the end of the section of text you put between them.

I use Word 2010 and have used Word since the Windows 3.1 days. I have never had a problem with cut and paste or embedding HTML tags in the text

I have also used a trial Office 2013 without problem.

So you make Laurel go through your story and put the tags in?
