I do love Sartre and Kierkegaard, as my signature would indicate, but I loathe Skype as inauthentic...

Still, best of luck with your search, and always remember that Hell is other kinky people with a mildly different interpretation about something minor from you.

What is authentic to you?

In terms of communication - pen and paper, or anything else where thought marks the world with physical form. In broader terms, all the usual things - living and acting as if the eternal return were true; taking responsibility for my own thoughts and actions, etc.

Don't get me wrong - I like surfaces, masks, playfulness and insincerity with the best of them. It's just that I'd rather be aware that's what I'm doing.

Voice and video chat is as sincere as I can provide in this god forsaken internet existence of mine. Oh well. Let us lament this mask.

Oh, madam, I know the need for masks, and do not lament them. I just fight to remember that the mask is not the person, and that physical presence still counts for something. As I once heard a psychologist say, with regard to gaining the trust of a patient over time:

'Don't just do something. Stand there.'

And so, as Leonard Cohen would have it, here I stand. Delighted to make your acquaintance.

I forgot about that song. I got nostalgic!

I am happy to have been of service. I love nostalgia. I feel most nostalgic about events long before my birth, and times and costumes I cannot possibly have lived in or worn when they were fresh. The 20s masked balls of London move me almost to tears, whilst today's parodies inspire little more than a sigh.

Wistful may have been a more accurate word then. I think I feel the same way you do about certain time periods before my birth.

And then, as Sartre was sitting in the bistro, putting the finishing touches on his Etre et non-etre, the waitress asked for his order.

"I'll have a coffee, please. No cream."

The waitress was a long time returning, and when she did...

"I'm so sorry M Sartre; we're all out of cream. Will you take it without milk instead?"

I haven't heard that in a really long time. Thanks! :)

I'm not up on my philosophical literature, but I often yearn to have high-level conversation and get into some heated debates. I don't mean arguments, but sometimes I'm talking with my friends, and everything is just so superficial and dull. It's a rare treat when someone challenges my preconceptions and make me give pause.

Phonesex is something I've had a pretty good handle on for a couple of years now. If the skype connection is stable, that is. They can be hit or miss, and the latter can really kill the mood.

Yay, a Jenibee thread!

Ah. Not my area of specialist interest. Boo.
