I just watched a YouTube clip for the new Gotham TV series.
Some Script writers have built some great idealistic worlds. Some I wouldn't mind living in.

Do you feel the same? Which work of fiction would you live in?

I'd live in the West Wing universe & anything Capra.

Honestly, I don't know why anyone would want to live in Gotham. One would think that the presence of Batman (not in this new series which happens prior to Batman's appearance) would make it a very safe city. But, evidently, Batman's not a very good crime fighter. The city's not only corrupt, dark, dirty, scary and threatening, but so full of mentally-ill criminals that it's right next door to an insane asylum where all those criminals are housed and can break free and terrorize the city at any possible time

If I were living in the DC universe, I'd stay far away from Gotham. Metropolis is a bit safer. Criminals seem to take the threat of Superman a big more seriously and commit less of it, and those that do commit crimes there are more white-collar (Lex Luthor).

As far as living in any fictional city...have to think about that. There are so many intriguing ones.

Gotham has it's issues, but Metropolis is threatened with straight-up evisceration every couple of days. I'd rather be mugged than erased by Omega Beams, if I were choosing. ;p

For my choice, as depressing as it sounds, I'd go with the graveyard, from The Graveyard Book. It's just so nice there. Oh, to have a peaceful quaint afterlife, like walking through your old neighborhood and waving to everyone you know.

Plus, there's a fucking werewolf grammarian. Who doesn't want a werewolf grammarian?

I just thought the DC Gotham idea was creative, & how cool it would be to write a universe & live in it. Gotham wouldn't be my preference, but to think about it I wouldn't mind being the Gotham DA. I love a challenge.

Yeah but I'd come in with deep awareness, having watched & read everything.

-That I shouldn't trust anyone
-Shouldn't be married or have any friends, that can be held hostage
-Don't live in one location. Never do the same thing twice, don't eat in the same restaurant, etc
-Sleep in a deferent hotel every night
-If I drive I think a Tesla would be the most difficult car to blowup.
-But I'd probably role like the Lincoln lawyer. My office would be in my car
-Wear a bullet proof vest
-martial arts training
-Hire body double

Saw a cute video a while back, on the premise that EVERYBODY knew who Batman was, and all the villains were actors employed by Gordon to keep him in Gotham. "Because if Bruce Wayne leaves and takes his billion-dollar company with him, then we actually WILL have a crime problem."

Me, hmm. The Sandman's library would be pretty great, though it's not really a city (bigger than that). The Bad Idea Bears want me to pick Lost Carcosa. Maybe somewhere in Banks' Culture?

Basin City would be interesting to visit for a day. Apparently, all the women there are gorgeous and the men are all ugly and stupid. I'd have a field day.

Truth be told, I think I'd rather live in the world I'm currently writing about. It's a fun place, if a little (okay, a lot) dangerous.

That is such an excellent choice! I would choose that, too. I wouldn't mind spending some time in London Below, though. That Marquis is dirty, but he's kind of sexy, too.

Assuming that you've a decent source of funds, Anhk-Morpok would be my suggestion. Or, maybe, Lancre.

Gotham City would be absolutely no go as the cops are completely incompetent, requiring the services of a strange bloke with a cape.

I would dig living on Pern. Flying a dragon or having a firelizard as a companion.

Fucking hell! Yes! Pern! That's my answer! How could I not think about Pern? My all time favorite books. The books that made me want to write. My first tattoo was a dragon because of those books.

Yeah, but it's got that whole "seductive fascination" thing going for it. As suicidally bad ideas go, it's an attractive one. Or maybe that's just me.

Kadath might be interesting, or Sandman's Baghdad-in-a-bottle.

Lots of settings that seem like fun until you realise you've only seen them from the nobles' perspective, and they probably really suck for everybody else.

Nope. The whole WORLD is threatened with evisceration from Doomsday, Darkseid and Brainiac, Gotham included. But what villains threaten ONLY Metropolis? Very few. Even Lex Luthor doesn't threaten his own city.

So. Still safer than Gotham.

Meh. Clark isn't exactly the thin-red-and-blue-line. Justice League would step in eventually. Still, because of his presence, crazies like Bizzaro, Metallo, and Zod make Metropolis ground zero on a regular basis.

Not to mention, if we're talking about collateral damage, psychos like Mr. Mcyzptlk make the Joker look like a high school vandal.

Bigger the hero, bigger the mess.
