Okay, so I had a guy today ask when my cycle was, start and end. Then he asked for pictures of it.

I am with you on this one! I don't understand the appeal either! When a woman doesn't feel sexy and is cranky along with everything else involved it shows. I think its just best to not go there. Although I am sure, some feel differently!

I think we're talking two different things here.

One is sex during a period. Many women are far to uncomfortable(physically and mentally) for it and many guys are not enthused about seeing blood on their cock.

I know someone that when he was an older teen worked at a gas station back in the 70s. His coworker would always volunteer to clean the women's bathroom because he could pull out the used tampons in the little trash and sniff them.

I haven't heard that one before. I have known men (and women) who like sex during their period but not the pics.

However, as a few people have pointed out it is just a fetish. Aside from being foreign to you, did the request come across as being a harbinger of something unpleasant in his personality? If you don't enjoy doing it don't do it but if it is a matter of making you uncomfortable, ask yourself why.
