Story Category Question!

1. Let's say you write a story about a guy who is gay. He dates/sleeps with other men etc. However, he keeps, or tries to keep this lifestyle a secret.

He has a female friend. This friend has always had romantic feelings for him. They meet up, reconnect, and yadda yadda yadda, the guy figures buy dating this woman he can hide his gay lifestyle from people. they date, are romantic, yadda yadda yadda they are together.

what category would this story go in? Gay? Erotic Couplings?


2. another idea. white woman loves big black cock since she was 18. Fifteen years later, meets and reconnects with her white cousin, yadda yadda yadda, they date, fall in love etc. it appears as though she no longer prefers black men.

Interracial? Erotic Couplings? Incest?

There is no hard rule and you could probably get away with placing either story in either category. However if you have to guess the best rule there is is to place your story in the "highest kink" category for with it applies.

In the case of your stories I would put the first in the gay category because Erotic Couplings is a catch all, you only put stuff there when it doesn't fit a category. More importantly there are lots of people who find gay sex to be gross. So if they click a random story and it has gay sex they'll be unpleasantly surprised.

The second story I'd probably put in incest. Interracial sex doesn't bother the majority of people but incest is either a big turn on or a big turn off and eithe rway you should advertise it.

Is he fucking men in the story? Then Gay Male. Are you writing about a GAY man having his first sexual encounter with a woman? Then First Time. Is it a "love story" focusing on their strong bond and friendship, with no sex? Non Erotic. Etc.

Incest, without a doubt. You could have interracial midgets fucking talking unicorns in their ACID TRIP delusions, and then you throw in some relation with the sex, it's automatically Incest. Besides, if you're NOT writing about people of diferent races fucking, the story will never go in Interracial.

I pretty much agree with your post except for the bolded part. Incest doesn't always trump other categories. I have a series in Erotic Horror concerning incestuous twin brothers, and there's quite a bit of action between the two. But the overall mood of the story is horrific. So incest won't always trump other categories.

But it very often does.

EH, NH and sci fi will generally be forgiving about pretty much everything because as genres they are more about story than sex and more like mainstream fiction than erotica.

In erotica it is placed my the main "kink" but in works of fiction anything can be found.

For example one of the most successful stories here of all time-one of the very few that have a EHW- is in sci fi. but is a romance about two sisters.
