I believe the answer is the same as most people and their different posting styles. When you first join it's fun to be sexual and goofy but that wears thin, maybe you've hit on every woman who glances in your direction or maybe you decide that your marriage is important to maintain so you drop the sex and cling to the bitter. And there you have a crew of strictly political posters who rant and rail at the sky as if their vitriol will make a bit of difference.


Or, like me, you choose to not talk about politics and stick to the fluffy and I still get called stupid and other names. We all post what we want. It takes all kinds.

Hmm...that idea has some merit. I was thinking of this as politically neutral, but hadn't considered whether the phenomenon is gender neutral or male specific.

Now that you mention it I only have 3 women, one left, one right and one all of the above on iggy for their political idiocy. All three do occasionally display interests in other things, even delving into their own personal sexual interests ~shocker~.

The "bold" kind above was the style of poster that I was wondering about.

Of all the places on the wide,wide,world of sports and interwebs...why HERE? The volume and frequency of posts suggest this is their primary vent. Nothing wrong with that on its face. We all need to vent about something. Since no one of any 'importance' reads much of anything, anywhere..it probably doesn't matter much where one pisses into the wind.

I wonder though...as they cut and paste an article from "mysideisright.com" they seem to think that they have something of value to say on the subject. Do they also comment and debate on the host site with the article they reference, or only bring it in house here for bludgeon-my-foes material?

The questions don't address history, because it doesn't matter how you became who you are...just curious what it is these politicos get out of it now.

Some of the options DO implicitly cover that, I would imagine it has to do with wither protecting one's self from attack by ones historical foes.

Given that one can search conveniently only 200 posts...I always marvel that people can link one post of their "opponent" from years ago out of 50,000 posts.

To do that, one has to have an actual dossier complied, accessible and annotated.

I realize in GB terms I haven't "earned" my seat at the table for any discussion because I need another 47,000 "Nuh-UH, you are wrong like you ALWAYS are!" posts to be considered.

Less than 3 posts a day just doesn't cut it. If you go all the way back to my infrequent postings on Lit going back to about 2003, I am even more unqualified to have an opinion on any subject...

Worse still, when I do 'contribute' something, I use so MANY WORDS, when really clever snark is all that is required here.

Now that you are on ignore, having to click "view post" to see what you have to 'contribute' is a chore, but as the original poster I feel I should be a responsible host and at least read all viewpoints...assuming that a viewpoint can be discerned.

Not a word devoted to how your position differs...just the certainty that mine was wrong. Curious because you weren't on my iggy list I scanned a couple paged of your posts....a bot of random statements of refutation would have done as well. Made me wonder why you bother...do you actually have fully formed opinions about anything? Or is it just like High School? The bulk of the Politicos I have on iggy are there to remind myself not to respond at all, since it is never an actual exchange of ideas..."You're wrong" isn't particularly interesting. Just about any position I take, I assume at least 50% of the world doesn't not share my opinion.

I will scan what they have to say if a poster with actual opinions happens to quote them...but it takes less than an eye_flicker to scan past a post with nothing relevant in it.

I could flip a coin and simply guess all the various iggy'd politcos opinions. It would make no difference at all to my opinion on the subject since I have those from the left and the right there. Since I HAVE actual opinions...and they are based on something that I have read or experienced..., being informed that you disagree has zero impact. There are quite a few posters that lean political that I rarely find my opinions in alignment with that are still well worth reading IMO. But most of those don't meet the criterion above...they participate in threads that might have political implications but aren't necessarily overtly so. A lot of discourse is sociological, or anecdotal..."my crazy neighbor did this and so"...that sort of thing...

I'm referring to the ones that ONLY post in "Obama is an asshole", or "The Oligarchs are using Major League Baseball to control my mind" threads.

I'll give you a parallel example...I found myself reluctantly on FB....As I added people, I found politics is pointless there. I have no interest in discussing politics with someone that can be persuaded by an Instagram meme. Some of my friends are political junkies, so veiled references work their way into posts and comments but it isn't usually the theme. When it IS the theme...it ends up pointless...those that agree already know, those that don't aren't apt to be persuaded.

That doesn't mean it NEVER comes up...but when it does, I am not eager to run find another one to stir up.
