Okay, I need some help from you ladies! I've been dating someone for a while now and I remember he had mentioned he though garter belts were sexy. So his birthday is now coming up soon and I bought a garter belt and thigh high stockings to wear. But we are going out to the movies first so how do I do this? Should I wear everything under my clothes? Or change? I'm new to this so any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

Wear them, under a dress. Make sure he puts his hand on your knee at the movies, and make sure it slides up under your hemline so he knows, but can't do anything about it.

Well, this will be one of those "not usually" times. The key here will be to dress and act normally. Don't give him any hint that there is something wonderful about to happen to him. Dress as you normally do, maybe a little more special because it's his birthday, but don't step out of character or the charade is over before it begins.

If you have to pee its a lot easier to slide them down if they are on the outside...and well, that makes your theater date fraught with possibilities.

I can't speak for your guy...but...well...my GUESS is that a lot of guys would find it pretty hot if a self described "bohemian style' girl decided to go out of her comfort-zone and include some heels in the costume.

Sure, you will wobble awkwardly...but that paints an endearing picture...at least in my mind.

I made that mistake long ago and it only takes one trip to the ladies room to teach you different.
My advice is just ditch the stupid things but if you must wear them they go over the garters.
Oh and please please make sure they match the rest of the set.

they do sell footless thigh-highs.. they're typically more like high socks, but that might be more your thing.

no matter what you choose to do, it sounds like you're putting yourself out there to do something special for him and you're willing to be playful about it. what's not to love?

Thanks! Well I would wear nude tights but everything else is black so I thought that would look weird. Also, I thought you wear underwear under the garter belt? No? I'm going to look into getting footless ones. I don't know if we're going back to my house or his but we both live with our parents, and even tho they'll be sleeping, I figured it'd be easier to already be wearing the lingerie under my clothes

The underwear definitely goes over top of the garters. Like the above poster said, there is a practical reason - you will not be able to go to the bathroom without completely undoing and redoing the garters if you put the undies on underneath. Unless you have panties that tie in bows on both sides and want to untie and retie those instead to get the underwear out of the way in the bathroom.

I love stockings and garter belts. Be sure and wear the undies over the garter belt for easy access.

If you are wearing garters and stockings, which are not the same as thigh highs, you should be more dressy in general. I would go with a nice skirt or dress, nude stockings, matching bra and panties and a slightly contrasting garter belt. Sandals or pumps would finish the outfit nicely. Also, wear a slip.

OK. So no you do not wear your panties under the garter, it is both for access and for when you go to the restroom. I have worn garter and stockings with a variety of dresses and skirts, not always with heels either. Make sure you have stockings and not thigh highs, Thigh highs are meant to be worn alone and have a silicone band at the top. Stockings have to be worn with a garter belt. Keep in mind most garter belts are intended for "bedroom only" wear. The better garters have more than four straps, it helps keep the stockings up. Oh and always match your bra, panties and garter. It's looks better. If you have a tumblr look up The Lingerie Addict, she has many good articles about wearing and buying good lingerie.

"Thigh-highs" , depending on where in the world, usually are generally these stay up kind of stockings that have an elastic band built into the tops. They do not require a quarter to hold up but more importantly that a rustic band makes that top too thick to conveniently use the keepers included on the ends of the garter straps that hang from the garter belt.

The tops of conventional stockings that are designed to be held up by a garter belt are simply sheee with a seam to keep it from raveling.

Speaking of seams, I'm a big fan of the 1940s style back seam.

Also, if you can't do heels wear a pair of flats with a small heel. Usually just a tiny wedge or a thick heel. Nothing higher than an inch. With tights, flats and a dress, it'll look nice and when the dress comes off it'll be sexy.

Okay' so his birthday is next Sunday and I still don't know what I'm wearing! I'm afraid that the garter belt I bought won't stay attached to the thigh highs all day. I'd tend to go for something knee-length with that kind of stocking. Mini is too short, and maxi might be too hot for comfort, or a touch conservative. As for the shoes, do you have any ballet flats?

Try wedges. Not as unstable as heels, and can go with a variety of styles without sacrificing the sexiness you're going for.

I've worn my garter belt and stockings with a maxi skirt, was a nice surprise for him as he wasn't expecting it. Wore it with ballet flats too as it was really snowy.

Wear what ever makes you feel good, it doesn't have to be 6 inch stilettos and a short pencil skirt.
