In the current, real world - a 'bot usually indicates a software agent - often malicious. Doing something bad to your PC/Mac/iPod/Android 'cause some widdle person is in Mommies basement and can't get girls...

In the sci-fi - sorry, old school - pardon me - syfy - world - a bot is a robot. Usually homind android of some type, but does not necessarily need to be.
