Just curious and wondered if any authors, or even readers, could answer this question. I get a lot of readers who list one or more of my stories as "favorite" and me as a "favorite" author. Then the next day, the next week, whatever, that same reader will "unfavorite" me or my story or both. Is there a limit to how many favorites one can have? If one likes a story can one then realize that they really don't like the story? This is a puzzlement.

Some have mentioned here that this is a bookmarking tactic. A reader starts a tale but wants to finish it later. They hit FAVE so it's easy to find. When they've finished, they UNFAVE it. In other words, don't take it personal, it's just an artifact of the system. If other flagging methods were available, we wouldn't see the FAVE-UNFAVE cycle.

I rarely see the 'favorite/unfavorite' phenomenon happening with one-off stories, but quite often with my various story series. I just write it off to fans using the 'fav' button as their bookmark to keep track of what chapter they were on.
The biggest head-scratcher I ever had, was one reader 'fav' and 'un-fav' me as an author five times in the same month.

I might do that sometimes as a bookmark or a reminder to read a particular story. Must be annoying - I'd never really thought that an author would notice before.

I have a fairly lengthy list of Favorite Authors and Stories, but I am also guilty of favoring a story or an author until I ether finish the story or have read all of the authors I want and then unfavorite them. As someone else said were there a different or better way to keep track of things I want to return to I would not use the favorite button so often.

I don't think there is a limit any more. At the time I registered it was 25, I think, but since then it has either been eliminated or raised to a very large number. I've seen some lists that must be in the hundreds.

Being a huge fan of backups, I mark my fav's but I also add them to a special folder in my bookmarks.

OMG. Checked my 'Recent Activity' and see I've been unfavorited! How cruel was my discovery. It's this thread, it brought sickness! I've been infected with a LTU.

Swilly, if it make you feel any better, I only discovered you yesterday. Since then I've read 3 of your stories and have given you 5* on all of them. I have one guy "lutyreader" who has faved and unfaved me as an author well over a dozen times. I get the fav/unfav a story as you read it, but as for th author? Does he forget he doesn't like me?
