I'm not sure if I should be posting this on the 'how to' forum instead but here goes...

Today, my yahoo messenger has changed its layout, but it's also restored a lot of deleted and blocked addresses (yes, I know it was stupid to put my yahoo id in my profile when I first started, but I'm a quick learner). I've tried deleting them again, and it seems to work, but when I close the browser and then log back in, they reappear. If I click on the name, it tells me they're not known contacts so why have they reappeared in my contacts list?

I know I'm a technical idiot, but someone please help me :( How do I permanently delete them?

Have you tried to clear your history and such? Another solution may to uninstall and reinstall YIM.

I presume you've already deleted all the cookies on your computer (not sure if it would help but it's step 2 after "When in doubt, reboot {it even rhymes in Canada}). This problem also might be a glitch in the newly revised Yahoo program. If enough people complain to them, they might get the inspiration to fix it.

Or you could go back to snail mail, which has its own charm. :rose:

Yes, I've tried clearing the history but that's had no effect.

I'm accessing it through yahoo mail rather than directly through messenger, so that may or may not have a bearing on it. But this hasn't happened before.

I didn't even know you could still reach yahoo messenger through email in a browser. I am so behind the times.

Have you tried calling or e-mailing Yahoo tech support? It's worth a try before you go through more drastic measures such as uninstalling and re-installing it.

Yahoo is doing some weird stuff for me too.
Apart from it regularly logging me out and not logging back in automatically, it won't change my sig pic.
I had very few contacts in the first place, don't know what is happening with the deleted and blocked ones.

No, it's because you will use a PROPER email programme rather than Yahoo :D

I'm not running the messenger programme itself, but accessing it through yahoo mail. I don't use the full programme at work because I don't want the pop up messages appearing on my screen - the mail is more discreet ;)

It's been dropping me out as well. Perhaps it's trying to give me the push!

I've had the same issues. I'd cleaned up my list a bit and then "BAM," messages from those who I thought I'd blocked. I go though yahoo mail to get to messenger most of the time for privacy issues. I guess I need to download messenger and try to clean it up again.

I'm glad it's not just me :D. When I use the app on my iPad, it's fine - I only have the problem when I access it through yahoo mail. I suppose it goes to show that nothing is ever truly deleted, is it

it happens all the time on handphone. Your emails synchronized with all your contacts and it is not easy to delete, clear history .... etc. Just delete the apps and download again.

good luck

In your yahoo mail, click on 'Available', then click into 'Messenger Settings'. You can choose to 'Block users in the Block list below. I will not be able to send or receive instant messages from users in this list.' From there, you'll still be able to see whether they're online or offline, but they won't be able to talk to you. Much like keeping an ex's phone number saved in your phone can save you embarrassment when they call you unawares, it can be better to keep these where they are.

You may, if you have a particularly persistent suitor (continually makes fake names up to get your attention) have to combine this approach with the other option offered, ' Block all users not in my Contact List. I will not be able to send or receive messages from users not in my Contact List.'

Best of luck. :)
