Samsung Galaxy S3 Tethering

Hi -
Does anyone know a way to either hide the Wi-Fi tethering signal, or change the name so it doesn't read Androidblahblah? In other words, I want to start up my Galaxy S3 tethering mode without anybody "seeing" that I have started it by listing Wi-Fi in the vicinity and recognizing it as mine.
And no, I have not and don't really want to jailbreak my phone...
Thanks :)

But....why??

I mean, if you don't want that everyone knows it, why don't you tether over usb or bluetooth?

Because I have no clue what I am doing :p but you just helped a lot! Thank you (haha - and my phone is prompting me to say "Sir" right here...) Thank you Primalex :)

It sounds like you are paying for tethering...

I use fox-fi... free version works great, lasts like 15 minutes then you have to re-enable it.

I have named mine "NSA Surveillance Team"

I paid the $8 I think for the unlimited version. It sets up a hotspot and you can name it whatever you like....and no extra money to Verizon that already rapes me on my unlimited plan that isnt really unlimited.

I am deliberately running a first generation Droid-x to avoid jelly bean.

I think they have versions of fox-fi that will run on your device.

I appreciate the additional info, as I have so far been unsuccessful in Blue Tooth pairing my phone and my iPad...

Turn on access control.. with that on, only the devices you allow
can connect to your wifi.

If you want to mess with people, turn off encryption (WEP, WPA, etc)
Their computer will seem to connect, but have no internet access.

And set the name to something that sounds like a porn site LOL
