I run into those daily, the older white men that complain that "foreigners and Habib from New Delhi are taking the computer jobs away from good God fearing white Americans"while sitting on their asses in front of the computer or sitting at the neighborhood dining drinking free coffee and nursing a piece of whole wheat toast so they can get the free coffee. They want America to return the to days of the 50s, when White Men ran the country, women knew their place, and homosexuals didn't exist.

A huge percentage of those coming here illegally are illiterate in their own languages. They are not coming here to celebrate the founding principles of the country. Boy, someone's never been to Northern NY, or Northern VT, or Northern Maine, or Northern MN, or, well you get the point. One of these things is not like the other. One of these things just doesn't belong.

There is not a single generalization in that statement that could not have been applied with exactly equal justice to every previous generation of immigrants to America. But eventually they all became good Americans anyway, and enriched our society and its culture.

The vast majority were all from Europe and steeped in Western Civilization, and the government that welcomed them here did not encourage them to bring their culture here, but to assimilate into our existing American culture.

The government didn't encourage bilingualism, the Balkanization of multiculturalism, nor did they swear them in using their own languages either. They didn't get to vote in their language. They had to learn our history, our language, founding documents, laws, and pass a proficiency test in front of a federal judge. They didn't swear their allegiance to the United States in their native language in sports stadiums. That's the difference.
