I just received a kindle fire hd for Christmas. I am having trouble connection to my wifi which i am currently using for all my other computers. I am also having the same issue with my ipod. The wireless router does have a password but I have been assured that I AM typing it in correctly. If anyone can help, please speak to me directly via Skype: chasemepleez or on yim: thenitesiren

I had a similar problem when I added a new laptop to my system. I installed a new more powerful router and it solved the problem.

I'm not sure about that. But you can get very good router that will handle you're needs for under $100. If you close to a Best Buy they often give good advice and can be helpful.

Have you tried Kindle customer support? I believe there have been others with this issue..

Sometimes with the Kindle you have to uninstall the Network on the Kindle and then reinstall it also and then it will pick it up. I know I had to try it a few times on my Stepmoms and we were finally able to get it to work.

I have never had an issue with mine connecting.

Also check to make sure you don't have it in Airplane Mode cause that will prevent it from connecting and then here is a quick internet search on some tips

Possible solutions:

Try holding the power button for a second and when “Do you want to shut down your Kindle?“ pops up tap “Shut Down”. Turn off your router. Now turn both of them back on again.

Try rebooting the device by holding down the power button for 20 seconds and then tap the power button to turn it back on.

Before you start, make sure your Kindle Fire HD is fully charged. Reset the Kindle Fire HD to factory settings by pulling down the notifications bar and then tap More > My Account > Deregister and read the text then tap Deregister to confirm. Bring the notifications bar down again and hit More > Device > Reset to Factory Defaults, read the text and tap Erase Everything. You’ll have to set up your Wi-Fi network again from scratch.

Not sure if you use skype or yim but could we talk via one of the two and walk me through it. I am not tech friendly...to say the least.

Given the trouble with your iPod as well, the issue may be your wireless router. Netgear routers are notorious for these types of issues, but any router could cause these types of issues. If your router is more than a couple of years old, it may be time to step up to a new one. Nowadays wireless routers are pretty affordable, and pretty widely available. However, if you're tech savvy enough to setup your wireless router following the guide that came with it, simply resetting the router to factory settings and starting over can work wonders (use the same network name and password to avoid setting up the wireless on every device in your house). Have you attempted to use the wifi anywhere other than your home network? If so, any success?

How many forums you going post this in?
Google your question.

I did and hardly got any help. Different groups of people hang out in this area and teh How to...I'm sure you know that. No harm is trying.

If you think I'm gonna behave you have bigger issues than your kindle.

:)

I thought that might be the case...*pecks ur cheeK*

I have a laptop of my own and four other laptops run off of this same router.

Yeah, sounds like you're pushing that thing to its limits. I would test the wifi of your Kindle Fire and iPod at any other wifi access point (private or public) and make sure they work there. That would at least rule out the wifi chips in your new devices being the problem. That happened to me with an iphone once, wifi wouldn't want to work unless I was standing on top of the router!

I have Linksys Cisco E1200. Can you recommend something better?

I went to a nearby place that offered wifi and was able to connect. So its the router here that is the issue.

I saw that could sync my ebooks using the cable i have with my laptop but is there a way to get my videos? I have bought quite a few.

NiteSiren, I have had a similar problem with my wife's Nook/Android tablet.

I ended up replacing both the modem the new one is a Motorola SB 6141 sisdoc 3 the latest and greatest about $70 at Costco. The router is a Net Gear N 900 Dual Band Router about $130 at both Costco and Best Buy.

Right now I am running 6 wireless devices and one hard wired to the router with almost no problems. If you get the Net Gear I suggest you down load the Net Gear Genie which can be helpful and does some repairs if needed and keeps a lot of your information available to you should you need it.

I know it is a bit pricey and I had to dig deep too, but it has been worth it not hearing about not being able to get on line with her new toy. I am going to be in so much trouble when she reads this.(LOL)

I hope you find this helpful.

Mike
