Actor Peter O'Toole, who starred in Sir David Lean's 1962 film classic Lawrence of Arabia, has died aged 81. More here.

:( :rose::rose::rose:

Dr Harry Wolper: I tell you Sid, that one of these days we'll look in to our microscope and find ourselves staring right into God's eyes, and the first one who blinks is going to lose his testicles.

I'll always remember him in the movie 'Creator'. He had such wonderful lines to play with. He just shined as an eccentric genius.

Dr Harry Wolper: Look! First day of classes. Undergraduate female bottoms as far as the eye can see. In two weeks time, all the really choice bottoms will be in the hands, so to speak, of the varsity athletes.

Ah, I recall "the Lion in Winter" as an early O'Toole film, and damned good it was too.
He's up there, somewhere, amusing the Lord with wit & charm; and chasing the ladies in the choir, no doubt.
Rest in Peace, Sir. You gave us all a lot of pleasure with your skills.

Oh yes, "Lion In Winter."

Also, "What's New Pussycat."

"My Favorite Year."

Emma Thompson's magnificent homage to him as the hard drinking, chain smoking, half-crazy author, in "Stranger Than Fiction."

RIP. I loved Lion in Winter. My favorite medieval time period, as well as favorite dynasty, Henry II and Plantagenets. RIP. :(

Can't say I've seen much besides Lawrence of Arabia, but even in the clips of other movies I've seen, he was always great to watch.

I do regret he's died, but, although I can say I thought most of the movies he was in were really good, I had trouble watching him in them because I felt he was playing the part more swishy than he should. Maybe he wasn't like that in real life, but that's how he came across to me on the screen. I've known too many men who tried to be Peter O'Toole, so maybe it's a circular thing.

Apparently the critics and audience disagreed.

Can't your pompous ass even say 'wow that's to bad RIP without critiquing the dead in a vain attempt to act like you know what you're talking about?

"I've known many men who tried to be him"

I guess this is supposed to go back to your accomplished acting career, right?

Goddamn you are an asshole.

Get screwed, you tiresome little stalking turd.

Not one of his famous roles and one that he would not really be known for, but I liked him in the comedy

High Spirits.

You might have heard him without knowing... He voiced the food critic in the Pixar film 'Rattatouille'

Neat. I'm not sure if I knew that or not. I'm sure I've seen/heard him in other things, just can't recall.

In my younger days, I worked with some of the guys who worked on Lawrence of Arabia. Apparently, Mr O'Toole was very engaging company at supper. My colleagues had some wonderfully warm and funny tales to tell. And I think that, despite everything, Seamus Peter O'Toole may have outlived them all. :)

"Dean Spanley", one of his later films, is worth a look. Funny-sad story about grief and reincarnation.

My mother and I have been lifelong Peter O'Toole fans, surely one of the dreamiest guys ever. I loved how Meryl Streep described him as the man who's eyes had swallowed the moon *sigh*. I've a feeling we'll settle down to watching Lawrence over the Christmas hols  what a lovely, outrageous man

I've liked Peter O'Toole for a very long time, but fell in love with his acting in The Ruling Class. It seemed like such an incredibly difficult role, so over the top, that his energy blew me away.

I loved him in Venus, as well. Sweet and intense. My other favorites are Becket and Goodbye Mr. Chips.

Look at our collective list. He had such a magnificent range of characters to play.

Whoah. What a description! And moonshine fell out, every time he opened his mouth...

What? No mention of "Murphy's War"? Maybe not a great work of art, but O'Toole played the Irish Pilot, bent on revenge for the murder of his shipmates, to perfection.

Then, of course, there is the wonderful pathos of his performance in "King Ralph".

There is a great line in "My Favourite Year"
"I'm not an actor, I'm a movie star." It's made funnier by the fact that he was an actor, and a damn fine one at that.
