I do regret he's died, but, although I can say I thought most of the movies he was in were really good, I had trouble watching him in them because I felt he was playing the part more swishy than he should. Maybe he wasn't like that in real life, but that's how he came across to me on the screen. I've known too many men who tried to be Peter O'Toole, so maybe it's a circular thing.
Can't say I've seen much besides Lawrence of Arabia, but even in the clips of other movies I've seen, he was always great to watch.
And I just saw at the Washington Post that Joan Fontaine has died as well.
ETA: And since these things happen in threes (so they say), I saw at CNN that another actor, Tom Laughlin, has also died.

You might have heard him without knowing... He voiced the food critic in the Pixar film 'Rattatouille'

Whoah. What a description! And moonshine fell out, every time he opened his mouth...My mother and I have been lifelong Peter O'Toole fans, surely one of the dreamiest guys ever. I loved how Meryl Streep described him as the man who's eyes had swallowed the moon *sigh*. I've a feeling we'll settle down to watching Lawrence over the Christmas holswhat a lovely, outrageous man
