Just wondering if any one made the decision to forgo these shot for there little ones, particularly the 2 month round of;

Rotavirus (RV)
Diphtheria and tetanus toxoids and acellular pertussis (DTaP)
Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib)
Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13)
Inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV)

It seems the popular thing nowadays. I heard a mother complain the other day "what is the point of the Polio shot, that has not been a issue in decades". I wanted to yell at her....of course it hasn't you twit, kids have been getting the vaccine for decades!

There is enough information and horror stories out there to make you head spin, so I can see how some people could come to the conclusion to skip some of the others. But most the anti-vaccine study's seem to be flawed at best and Pediatricians are almost unanimous in their recommendations to get them all....

I trusted my pediatrician and gave my daughter's whatever was on the schedule. I did a bit of research and personally determined the benefits outweighed the potential issues. My coworker will tell you different though..

I did decline the flu shot though..

I did a lot of reading and talking to Drs and plunket Nurses when my babes were small and made the decision to vaccinate.

But when asked what I think I advise parents to make an informed choice and not just listen to their neighbour or their great Aunt Betsy.

I try and respect peoples choices when it comes to vaccination of their little ones.

It can be hard enough being a new parent as it is without people getting in your face about breastfeeding or vaccinating.

Yep, I just wish I would not have researched this as much. The number of stories of hospitalization immediately following the shots is going to make tomorrow a rough day....

Yes same here. Keep in mind some of the shots make them irritable afterward. Like a day or two.. is it the shot that did it? I know I would be irritable if they gave me a shot in each thigh.

2 sides to the discussion from my point of view. First off I think that 2 mos is just to young to start the vaccination series. IMO 6 mos is the better age.

On the other hand infants these days are far more transportable and are exposed to a far greater range of strangers than in the past. Looked at from that perspective the sooner the better.

What is the series of inoculations these days? It used to be a series of three stretched over several weeks.

I got all my children vaccinated.
I know people who contracted polio.

My mother told us stories of whooping cough going through the neighborhoods and how some didn't make it.

Give your child acetaminophen before going and provide an icepack for the injection site. Be ready for a long day or so.

You must protect your child.

This is the current CDC recommendation/schedule...

People that refuse to get their children vaccinated are unfit parents.
Period.

and selfish fucking assholes who endanger not only their own children but the health of everyone they're exposed to.

people who don't are, in my opinion, idiots.

when some quack spouted off that autism was caused by the MMR jab, thousands of imbeciles decided not to get their kids immunised. personally, I cared enough about my kids to look at the risk V benefit instead of obeying the tabloid headlines. it came as no great surprise that more people die or are disabled by the disease than by the vaccine.

I don't disagree. But you also have tho think that the UK gives 10 vaccinations on a different schedule vs. the 26 recommended here in the states. Japan gives 17. Both have lower infant mortality rates. Some studies blame the vaccines, and each one of those studies has flaws.

I do not pretend to know the differences in what county gives what and why/when.

So, I will not go so far as to call them idiots. My oldest received them all and so will my youngest.

different countries have different disease risks, so some of it might be that.

in the US system, I might question the vaccines suggested. here, because it's funded by the nhs, the cost/risk/benefit equation is the motivating factor in deciding the schedule. in the US... you pay the dr to vaccinate, yes? it's possible there might be a financial motivation.

but that doesn't alter the risks of not vaccinating. a person who simply decides not to vaccinate is an idiot. a person who questions the frequency and puts in a little research to back it up is not.

I don't disagree with you. You and I are probably of an age when they had about 10 or so vaccines when we were growing up. I know I suffered through chicken pox and mumps, I'm glad my kids didn't have to.

As far as I can recall, there is no charge for vaccinations at public health clinics here in the USA, but it's been a while. I think private doctors charged a trivial amount.

Agree with you on the different disease risks, too.

I was hoping she'd use "mewling quim" as a term-of-endearment to describe you.
