The wait...

Is it only me who hates the waiting from uploading a new story to it being approved? Sat twiddling my thumbs checking every few hours in some sort of insane cycle.

Trying to distract myself with the rest of my NaNo story, but I've hit a huge wall. Only got about 20,000 words too, so doubt I'll be a winner this year - more planning required!

Well, this is a pointless post...off to twiddle my thumbs some more :D

May I recommend twiddling something other than your thumbs? Might alleviate the boredom. ;)

Patience Grasshopper. Everything and everybody comes in their own time. ;)

That's going to be a LOT of twiddling. It's taking anywhere from 4 to 7 days to get approved.

Just a heads up.

Oh, I've been twiddling things other than my thumbs also, don't you worry...must say Tx, your stories are helping me out there ;)

Hoping it's closer to the 4 than the 7 days!

I'm the same way, and I try to tell myself that the writing should be the fun bit but I still want instantaneous feedback.

if there's a contest on then twiddling becomes your no 1 hobby I'm afraid (unless you enter the damn contest)

Assuming it's taking closer to seven days to get a non-contest story posted, do any authors try to time their story entry so it gets posted on Literotica on a certain day? And if so, which day of the week is the best for a story to get posted on? (I assume weekends mean more readers?)

I used to try that. Back a couple of years ago it was 3 days and so consistent that I would put my story in on Tuesdays knowing I would get a Friday(my favorite day) release.

Now I put them in on a Friday night and they post when the post. I do Friday because the one day I will not let a story start is a Sunday so I know it won't be 2 days and should be less than 9.

In the past if Saturday came and my story was not up I would click pending to purposely send it back to the end of the line rather than have a Sunday start,

I have three stories pending, but my second Winter Holiday Contest entry, submitted after them, posted within 48 hours.

My next story to be approved has now hit 7 days on the waiting list, and no it's not in the contest.

I agree with this, but will add its a BS excuse on behalf the site. There is not a huge number of entries this year, I think around 30 or so and the contest has been running close to two weeks so not more than a couple entries a night, its not the contest slowing things down.

Its social media getting in the way

Actually, it is only one person checking and setting up all the stories you see on the new list every morning.

10 minutes! That's a long time for you.

And once again, the site is questioned and you mysteriously appear. For a guy who is out in oil fields you have an uncanny knack to always be around when someone is telling a truth.

So, how many people are you really?

And you take potshots at the site every chance you get. Then you get bent when someone corrects your bullshit. Like I told you in the PM you just sent me. If you don't like the site, then carry your ass somewhere else.

The chapters of my newest series have been popping right at six days, but the one that went live today pushed out to seven.

I was spoiled by the three day (four at worst) lag time. It's not that big a thing with a one-off stroker, but until (and if) Laurel gets caught up, you have to get creative with submitting the multi-chapter stories so the readers don't get antsy waiting a week or longer for the next installment.

I saw your last posting. :) I posted something not long ago and it took 6 days too. Before that, Lit was at the 3/4 day wait time. LOL, yeah, it was that long ago.

But hey, I'll take the 6 day wait. I've waited for 6-8 *weeks* for one of my publishers to let me know something. ;)

Neither me nor Manu have ever said that contests slow down story approvals. Like a lot of speculation that is made, repeated, and eventually accepted as fact, this is just not the case.

Here's a good rule of thumb: if anyone reads something about Lit written by someone who is not Manu or I, then there's a chance that it may be speculation. If anyone ever wants clarification on something they hear, please feel free to drop me a PM anytime. :rose:

Huh?

The reason we're behind is that we just pushed out a huge update to our Android app, which required me to spend many hours helping to test and retest for bugs. Then right when that was finished, they sent me a huge new set of upgrades to the main site which I had to go over carefully, then send back with pages of notes.

Then I had relatives in town for a few days. :D

So now I'm gonna start hitting the queue again. Sorry for the delay, guys (and girls)!

Thank you Laurel, for that explanation.

Sorry, I have been guilty of perpetuating the myth that contests slow down other story postings. It did seem to happen, but I'll now stop posting that.

Myths get perpetuated when information isn't provided from the source. That's been the case here for years. Sorry, but them's the facts of the matter here.

The regular forum users have been left to carry the information bucket the best way they can figure out--mostly on their own (and apparently with little understanding and appreciation). And asking the source has generally been met with silence over the past several years.

My experiences with publishers is it takes weeks to get a response to a submission, and even the online ezines take a week or more to get a reply.

Folks are too impatient with Laurel, and there's no reason for it.

It takes nine months for books and journal articles. The problem isn't as much with the waiting time (although there's some of that, certainly) as there is with the information available on what it will be. Laurel comes across here like the Web site has been forthcoming with reliable information. It hasn't been for years and years. That issue can't be shoved off on the regular forum users who have been carrying the information bucket. If they get it wrong, it's because the web site hasn't been providing timely, reliable information--and it has a whole bunch of functions listed that just haven't worked for years.

Showing up now and again in the last couple of months doesn't erase years of silence and leaving the forum users to carry the information bucket--not answering e-mails at all and often not answering PMs either.

And I'm not harping on this here. Laurel's the one who brought it up in terms of always being forthcoming. The truth is that she's been absent here for years.
