I'm new to LIT but I've noticed that there a very few people on here that are truely interested in the craft of writing. This seems more of a hangout for people that are trying to "hook up" rather than, write, or offer constructivecriticism. I'm thinking about deleting my profilr and creating a new one under the disguise of a woman, I'm sure I would get further.

Nah. You just have to ask the right questions. I'm a woman. It doesn't help.

This is an authors hangout. After writing for hours a lot of writers like to unwind and come to this site. I know that if you have a question about writing and ask it here, you will get a lot of help. That's the way it is here.

I stop by most every day to see what's new and to chat once in awhile. Anyway welcome to the AH, have a question you need help with? Don't be afraid to ask.

Thanks for the responses. I'm not speaking directly about the authors hangout forum, although I chose to post my thread there because, well, that's where the authors are. I'm talking more directly about posts I've put on other forums. I can get alot of people to read them but very few responses. I'm not looking for a date or cyber friend, I want to sharpen my skills and skills of others. I would like to learn from other writers.

I have posted erotic stories on Craigslist and got hundreds of responses, which isn't easy to do on CL. I post here and BAM......nothing. WTF?

You need to establish a following, it isn't all skill. This isn't a meritocracy, you have to get yourself out there.

Here's a hint. Put a link to your stories on Lit in your signature line. Makes them much easier to find.

And my personal policy is that a comment to my story bumps you to the top of my reading list.

Good luck.

Its helpful to understand that most come here for communion or maybe misery loves company salving, at times. But birds of a feather do tend to flock together here.

I don t think its possible for any male to be as crazy as most females are naturally. So don't go there, youll be outted the first time you make any sense.

Welcome.

I think of the AH as a sort of online version of a neighbourhood bar, where (mainly) writers can drop in, grab a coffee - or something stronger - and tell tales and swap lies and, every now and again, get a second opinion or two on writerly issues. The other Lit boards, on the other hand, do, as you say, often seem to be more about other stuff. But you don't have to go there - unless of course you want to. :)

The problem is that you are posting in discussion forums. Stories go on the story side of the site.

Read that one to hubby. His response: Truth hurts, huh?

I agree.

If you want comments, then you should post stories, as stories.

If you want roleplay, then the responses tend to go to known players with a track record. It is difficult for a newcomer to start a roleplay thread that will run. Participate first, see how Literotica works, then try starting something.

As with any stranger entering an established group, the advice is to watch, learn how the group works now, and wait before joining in. Trying to CHANGE how things work needs a much longer wait and your acceptance as a serious participant before your proposal will be considered. That's not just how Literotica works. That's how humans work.

Many of us lurked, watching for weeks or months, before jumping in.

I agree with Etoile you're posting in the wrong boards.

AH, story feedback, story ideas. There's some fun word games and writing exercises here as well.

So stick around here a bit and see what you think.

I do have to agree about the hook ups though.

The women in the AH are shameless in their pursuit of me;)

Jesus Christ. You buy one freaking book, and the next thing you know, you're being labeled a stalker! (Hubby says it ain't stalking when you pay for it.)

Well sorry you feel that way, after what...not even asking a question about writing...just complaining, bitching about what? Flirting?

I just have one thing to say...good-bye and don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

I'm always skeptical when I read a headline like "sorry to have to complain" since in my experience this tends to infer the exact opposite.

It's like when somebody starts a sentence with: "Not to be rude, but..." and then inevitably proceeds to say something rude.

Or when people say: "Please don't take this personally, but..." and then blurt out something very personally.

So my theory is, that you actually love to complain. Which is no problem - give it your best shot. We can take it. :)

Hmm, I should change my nick to something more Freudian.... or maybe have the bird smoke a cigar or something...

What, exactly about the thread title 'Author's Hangout' didn't you understand? Sure, there's bullshitting, lying, flirting, cussing, arguing and pandering around here, but damn few deep discussions about 'The Art and Craft of Writing' or such academic sludge as that.

If you like to relax, meet folks and have fun, stick around. If not, well, see ya. ;)

The craft of writing is to be found on editors' forum or Stories Feedback. This is a chat forum.

My favorite: "You'll have to excuse my Type A Personality..."

My response: "Your Type A Personality doesn't automatically make you better than I am."

I'm confused. Where exactly are you posting your stories? I feel like I've seen you around the other forums, but I'm not sure. Are you posting stories directly on the boards? If so, that's a little like publishing a BDSM personal on a forum that's clearly NOT meant for personals. It's going to get ignored, generally.

Etoile is right. There is a whole SEPARATE part of Lit for publishing your stories. Also, depending on where you're hanging out, you'll get a variety of responses or lack thereof.

I don't come to the AH much anymore, but when I do, it's really not to read. It's to chill, just like everyone else has pointed out.

First I would like to thank everyone for their valuable input.
I would also like to point out that I knew exactly what I was doing when I posted this thread in AH. I was truely sorry to have to complain because I hate to be that guy. In someways I'm a very inpatient person and wasn't getting the results as quick as I wanted.
So, in order to get responses that may help me get the responses I want, I looked for a forum that seemed to have the viewers that would offer the best responses. (a niche market, Marketing 101) & thought of a title that would draw attention (also Marketing 101).
Look what it got me, several quality responses that gave me the answers (and some critisism) that I was looking for.
In conclusion, this thread was posted exactly where it needed to be and I got the responses I was looking for.
I never got the advice I was looking for anywhere else.
Thanks for your responses and valuable insight.

I'm uh, still unclear as to where you're posting actual stories, as the forum is not the place for "submitting" stories, though you can throw a link in a feedback thread. Literotica main, your own user page, is where you actually submit. I think you know that, but I'm just clarifying I guess.

Anyway, as far as the discussions here go, usually this is just kind of a "hang and talk" kinda deal. But in my experience, the AH is one of the best places to ask about anything literary, whether you're asking advice or asking things that pertain to writing here at lit. As you've seen, you're gonna get like ten opinions right off the bat. As much as we often like to chat, we like discussing the craft as well, and you can get some great advice here.

If it's feedback on a story you've already submitted, that would fit better over in "Story Feedback." There are people from the AH that wander over there too, and you'll usually get an honest opinion or breakdown of what they felt about your story. Just start a thread, drop the link to your story there, and kindly ask for a set of eyes. They'll be there.

Lotta people that "hangout" here drift into other helpful sections too, like some good editors here can be reached in the Editors forum, and they are a lot easier and better than the Volunteer Editor thing Lit has. Just my opinion. Story Ideas and Story discussion are good places to discuss writing too.

No matter what we talk about in the AH, I can assure you that a lot of folks here like to discuss writing. So you've found the right place. Just don't let anyone drive you mad.

Thank you very much. Alot of mistakes I know. Still trying to learn my way around Lit.
