Change happens.

Thanks to all who followed all those closed threads. They helped me, and others, develop a feeling of community.

For better or worse, change happens.

Shank

Shank I love your threads! You could start new ones, but I understand that it's not the same.

I feel a loss with the Distance-Domination thread closing. I didn't start it. I haven't even posted in it lately but for the 5 or 6 (?) years I've been here it has so much of my history in it. My D/s relationship has changed so drastically and now that thread is done... :(

I just can't bring myself to start a Part 2 thread.

Thanks for your comment. I don't know yet how to fill my need to express how people body-play.

I'm like a little bird looking for a new song.

I'm fine since they aren't removing them. People can still read the wealth of information in them.

I hear you ecstaticsub about the distance D/s thread. I was excited to see it on the first page, then I read why. But if anyone still feels the need to continue it's easy enough to start a new one.

Okay now I understand your former comments Fu.
Perhaps there could be a sticky with links to the favourite threads of established Litsters. Sneak A Peak, Long Distance etc etc

The Over 5000 Club.

If the Board can afford space to do that to keep Trolls at bay, why not for something that is also important to the Community.

Just a thought.

I admire your stoic attitude and with an imagination like yours that lost bird will find a song like seagulls on a french fry in no time.

Hugs, Shank.

I'm not really active this days (change just happen, not always in the direction we hope for ...) but was happy to see you back here ^_^

Looking forward to see what new song you'll sing.

I don't like change; I have had enough change to last a lifetime...

I never commented Shank, dear, but I always looked whenever you posted new pictures. It was my inappropriate little secret - checking your thread from the stockroom on my break, while waiting in line at the grocery store, etc. It was a game - how quietly could I check out Shank's thread in public?

I'm going to miss your pictures. :(

I agree.
Just link to the older version of the threads and go on posting.

The community that has grown here will still continue to thrive despite the changes. New people come and go, but there seems to be a dedicated core group :)
Shank, I loved your thread, it opened my eyes and broadened my horizons.
Please don't stop!

All in all, the closure of these threads is a fairly minor change in the life cycle of a forum. We could have been hit with broader restrictions on posting pictures , for example. Or whole threads could have been deleted. I'm thinking this could have been much worse.

I agree. Having lived through the purge in 12/05 I understand your point. At least this was explained and will help this place stay nimble.

Once I get a handle on what exactly caused someone to complain I'll probably start "part duex".

Um, yeah... me too.

*sounds of Shank trying to cheep cheep in a new way*

A quick bit of research at the General Board and The Playground tells me that we "lost" far fewer threads than some other communities here. By sorting the threads according to the number of replies, I found that a page and a quarter of threads were closed at the GB. The Playground, which is well known for its endless threads, had nine full pages of threads closed.

It could have been much worse. Thus we have been rewarded for the slightly AD/HD character of our thread-starting cohort.

Here's the problem; when someone opens a thread, the server pulls ALL of the posts for that thread to have them ready for the viewer. That means one computer, the server, has to talk to another computer, the data server. When a thread has a thousand posts, the servers have to talk to each other one thousand times.
In the grand scheme of things, thats not necessarily a big deal. Computers talking happens real fast. But it does take some time and some computing power, and if, say, one thousand people access a thousand threads each with one thousand posts-- that's a million queries all being made at the same time. It will bog down the response time, and I have seen plenty of worried inquiries about is Lit still working...

Laurel doesn't want us to never post pictures of body play. She just wants to give her computers a break.

Create a new sneak a peek thread and keep going.

I expect I will start Sneak-a-peek – Body Play Duex soon. I do want to get clarification of what is outside the guidelines for my peace of mind.

And so I can tell those that report me to "stuff it" - although I expect pics of "stuffing it" do fall outside the guidelines.

I just started one... I'm afraid I jumped your gun, Shank

The only reason she closed the thread was because it had nearly eighteen thousand posts.

This is correct - it had nothing to do with the thread content! Many, many threads were closed all over Lit, as others have said. It was purely a technological issue.

It just seems right to allow the original thread starter to have the first chance at starting another thread, to carry on the same theme. Of course, if that person is no longer active, the door is open.

Obviously, these closed threads were popular. It seems likely that the second would be just as popular. Keeping the same name with the addition of some sort of tag such as 2, duex, revisited, etc. would be ideal. And, when the time comes to close that one, the same format would apply.
